Venting

Well, I called Jim's neuro 3 days in a row to try to get some sort of pain medicine for him. Since Jim's arm has started to move a bit he has been complaining about quite a bit of pain and all he had been given before was two amytriptyline at night for pain. Jim doesn't want to do rehab because there is too much painfor him and I can't have that. I needed something that would give him continuous pain coverage throughout the day so I told them I wanted to try Neurontin. After 3 days of calling the nurse finally called me back and told me they had called in a prescription for neurontin. When I picked it up it was for one 300mg neurontin to be taken at night before bed. How, does that make any sense ro any of you? First of all, why prescribe it at bedtime? He doesn't need the pain control at night when he is sleeping. Second of all, in order for neurontin to work it must be taken several times furing the day, I know because I was on it for a long time at 3600 mgs a day to control chronic pain. The doc didn't even ask to see Jim to check on his progress. I just don't understand doctors who treat their patients with such disregard and I won't put up wiyh it either. I think I'm going to change docs and take Jim to my neuro.

On a lighter note, all my tomato plants are in and growing nicely.

Thanks for listening,

Betty Jean

I don't care how good a dr. is or how well s/he is regarded in the medical field. If you don't have a rapport w/ the dr. and if s/he doesn't listen to you, then s/he is a lousy dr. Half of progressing along on the road to recovery is having the dr. being part of the team. Get a second opinion or find a dr. who you trust and can communicate with. Sounds like your neurologist fits that bill. Good Luck to you and Thank God for caregivers--you! Take Care. LK
