"What do you do all day?"
We went out to dinner with friends last evening. During the course of the conversation Bill commented about how quickly the week had flown past. Allen looked at Bill and asked "what do you do all week?" - with the emphasis in DO. Bill didn't know how to answer him!
We don't have to get up and go to work anymore. But the weeks do fly past - oh no, I guess that happens when we get older, doesn't it? Each day is "full" nonetheless.
Bill sleeps in the mornings, I get up and do some cleaning (how does a home get so dirty with only 2 people I constantly wonder???), log on the board to see what my friends are up to, we go to the post office - a long-held ritual held by Bill I've come to love - stop by the grocery store if needed - take in a doctor's appointment since there always seems to be at least one a week. What DO we do all week?
There was a time I never thought I'd have time to do the things I do now. Those were the days of the fledgling sales career that consumed my entire being, or the years of working for the university and toward my college degree at the same time. Those were the days of raising children and attending school board meetings and church and committee after committee meeting. Those were the days???
Life is much slower now, but in many ways so much more rewarding. This spring we have been able to notice the trees flowering and turning green. We are enjoying the dogwoods as they turn from pale green to white. We wonder at the beautiful azaleas in their many hues of pink and red. We are able to appreciate the world around us in a way I can't remember every appreciating it. Bill made it through the winter with nary a scratch. Each day is a wonder, and we are able to appreciate it as such.
What DO we do all day? Now that's a question!
