Prom report

Some of you requested the details on my daughter's prom so here goes. Sorry no pictures, We have them but I don't know how to post them.

My daughter is a very beautiful 18 year old. She has brown hair and a very fair peaches and cream complexion. Last year we were wandering through a large department store and noticed that all of the prom dresses were on sale, so we decided to look at them. She found several she liked so she tried them on. We found two we liked, a short one for homecoming and a long one for prom. We got both for $100! Normally (bs) I would have made both dresses.

A few months ago we found some gold colored shoes to go with this coral colored satin gown. Then we took it to a woman who hemmed it for her. Also something I would have done in the past. She did a beautiful job even showing some attention to detail. She reused some of the beads she cut off the hem to accent the straps which she relocated.

About a week ago we were in the fabric store buying some ribbon and we found some silk dupioni (raw silk) that was pink and orange woven together We thought it was just right for the purse we wanted to make. So we got a pattern and some gold colored chain for the strap. Barbara helped me cut out the pieces of the purse . I quilted the fabric channel style with gold thread and then decided to add gold beads at the intersections of the quilting lines. I did most of the construction of the bag, but Babrara helped some too. The bag came out great . Yeah I was finally able to make something special for my daughter!

Barbara and her date ordered corsages (white roses and orchids) and boutineer on the same day they ordered his tuxedo. His tux was classic black with a gold tie and a navy vest. (they said the gold one was too gaudy)They were so excited!

Barbara designed the t-shirts their group wore to school. It was based on a "dancing with the stars" theme. It is the custom of the kids down here to wear matching t-shirts for their group to school on the day before a big dance. The front usually has funny or clever artwork that is quite timely she said she saw lots of "Borat" themed ones. The back usually has the names of all of the kids in the group. Usually about 20 or 30 kids make up one of these groups.

On Saturday morning I took Barbara to the beauty salon to get her hair done. She found several pictures of Drew Barrymore online with her hair styled in varous "up do's". The one she selected looked like a loose mass of curls piled on the back of her head. She brought a gold hairband with her to put on as well. When the girls at the salon finished with her two hours later they sprayed her hair with gold glitter. It was georgous!

Then we went home to get dressed. Barbara looked lovely in her coral satin beaded gown. The newly made handbag was just the right touch. Then we were off to take pictures.

The kids in her group gathered at a park that had a gazebo on a small lake it was a beautiful backdrop for their pictures. First we did the corsage pictures. Barbara's date looked very handsome. Just like a "Dream Date" for those of you old enough to know what I mean. Then all of the kids assembled for pictures. Everyone with their date, just the guys and just the girls. My husband also took the requisite picture of the parents taking pictures of their kids. Then the limos showed up. Two white stretch limos wisked them off to dinner and then the dance.

They had dinner at a restaurant that is well known for its scenic parklike grounds complete with swans and peacocks. The dance was at the Hyatt Regency downtown she said it was very nice. Well that"s all I know as I didn't go to the dance.

Next up is the awards dinner for her scholarship and then graduation.

Thank you so much for the low-down on the prom. How clever of you to check out the dresses last year and get a great price- and how lucky to find fabric that went with the dress and being able to make the purse. A little more practice and you will be able to make the wedding gown.

Perhaps someone will help you put the picture up for us. Sorry, I'm a dummy. We'd all like to see it, I'm sure, even though we got a good description.

I'm anxiously awaiting the next posts about the Awards and Graduation.
