i've been having difficulty accessing the site...my big news is that two weeks ago while lying on my right side i was able to completely raise my affected arm...i have repeated this movement many times since...!!!!...god knows i needed to see some results after 4 months of 11 acupuncture treatments per week plus all the other therapies and the additional work i do on my own!...just to review, before coming here i had some movement in my affected arm but could not lift it in any way...the lifting now is 100% against gravity with no other muscle groups assisting...my shoulder is still subluxated and my anterior deltoid muscle is still fairly atrophied...i'm grateful for this improvement and it offers me hope that i can achieve more effective neurological healing...

i will keep posting as often as possible...rich

Cool Beans! Rich, just wondering, i'm assuming that you lifted your arm while laying on your back. Are you able to repeat this motion while standing?

hi steve!...i lift my affected arm most effectively while i'm lying on my right side altho i can lift somewhat less effectively when i am on my back indicating that the anterior shoulder atrophy is healing...while standing i can laterally lift almost to shoulder height but not over my head yet...i'm now venturing into walking up and down stairs without a cane or holding onto a bannister...it's scary...i'm taking it a few steps at a time but i do it every single day...i refuse to use the elevator...i'm on the 12th floor...my best to you, rich

Wow 12 floors.. Use the railing. just for safety sake.. Just have your hand ready if you need to... Be Safe :)

hi bonnie!...i know...it really amazes me that i have the fortitude...it's great walking/lower body pt and it's good exercise for my heart...believe me, i keep it safe...(no daredevil i...lol)...i wouldn't consider it without having my helper with me...i really desire to walk functionally without a cane someday sooner than later...great to read your post!...rich

rich,

that is great news, i wish you continued success. 12 floors is alot for a non-stroker, let alone a stroker. what a work out in itself. keep up the good work but be safe. you have more guts than i do for something like that, i would need the bannister for sure.

hello kimmie...i credit my helper here a lot...he is an incomparable support to me on my journey to heal over here...i couldn't imagine tackling those stairs without him...especially since there's no bannister on the right going down!...he holds the back of my pants when we descend...lol...we are quite a pair!...it can still be way scary at times but i know i'm not doing anything reckless...thank you for your post...best, rich

Great you will meet your goal. Glad your helper is with you on the stairs. I still find going up much easier than going down. This could be due to my vision problems though. Somedays I can walk down "like a big girl" other days its one step at a time. :) My wonderful SIL made sure there were bannisters on both sides of our porch.

Keep up the Good work (I know you will) we are so excited to hear of your progress.

Best wishes to you always, B

concentric movements going down stairs ARE more difficult B...going up is much easier for me too!

Hi Rich

Great news! Keep up the good work. I remember when it happened for me (controlled movement of the affected arm) A little at first and then a little more. I still work with it every day (it is still improving both in strength and control five years post stroke)

The stairs thing sounds like a great PT workout to strengthen and increase control of your affected leg and foot.

I do a walk every day but mostly on level ground. I do also do stairs but just not twelve flights at a time. LOL

Smiles :)

Hey Rich,

:cheer: What great news for you!! :cheer:

You're a great inspiration to me and others here :friends:

We're always looking for ways to improve Rachel's quality of life. Going to see a nuero group in St. Louis, MO on Tuesday. She still can't move her right arm She has lots of tone, and dystonia. Very painful. Still no right ankle movement.

Keep up the good work!!
