Hubby's Family Reunion
My hubby's family has an annual family reunion the 2 Saturday in July.
In the past this had been held in a park by Clarksville, where Grandma Drenth had lived and then by default it remained there for 6 years following her death. This year, it's being held at Harpers Ferry, Iowa which is located on the Mississippi River. Hubby plans on going to Harpers tomorrow so he can play(fish and boat) and talk with his cousins who will be there early, too. Since I'm not into fishing at all, I won't go there until the day of the reunion when my son and his girlfriend will go, since they both have jobs that require their pressence through Friday. I like that so I don't have to pretend to be interesed in conversation with people I barely know, only see them once a year. And, I won't have to drive myself...my son, 23 loves to drive. Hubby's mom is one of 9 kids, 2 of which have died, and one lives in Florida(never have met him). Each 'family' is to wear a predetermined color...ours of which is blue which is just fine by me, as it's my favorite color.
The 'problem' is that this is a potluck thing on Saturday. and the town of Harpers Ferry is about 3 hours drive away. So, I think we've decided on bringing a cake from a local grocery store. I think I'll get some kind of fruit tray, too.
My side of the family doesn't have reunions. We used to always get together on Christmas and Easter, and 4th of July, and other minor holidays...my immediate family...parents, sister and her family and my brother and his 2 sons who live in MIlwaukee(6 hours away) But, now that my parents have both died and their house was sold at auction, my bro and his sons don't have a place to stay. My brother is OCD and is difficult to tolererate, so he's not welcome at my home, nor our sisters home. I feel guilty about not having a place for him to stay while he'd visit, but he's very rude and difficult to tolerate.
Anyway, I just tried to do spellcheck and it wouldn't 'work' for me. So, please forgive any spelling errors.s
