The Flood Restoration continues

Our home got hit with about 8 inches of water in the basement which ruined the carpet and we had to rip out the bottom 36 inches of drywall. And the bifold doors that had been on the storage closets had to be trashed because of water(mold and mildew). The past 2 days my hubby has been repainting the upper portion of the drywall and the stairwell.

The replacement carpet we got at Menard's is to be installed mid August sometime. Then, the paneling we got will be installed as wainscoating. Hubby has already stained and varnished the chairrails. It all takes time and patience. Meanwhile all the stuff that was in the basement is in our garage, hopefully not getting ruined in the heat and humidity. Iowa has a hot July, August and September.(which makes the corn grow and the people wilt) I dont' know how I ever survived as a kid without air conditioning, only a window fan which my dad had made and he placed it so that it forced the air out the window.

Anyway, the only ones 'making out' with all the flooding are the home improvement places.

I still get blue thinking of the loss of our summer 'cabin' that flooded out completely. It was a paradise, except for the mosquitos, of course. Hubby loved to go trout fishing, but he can still go, he'll just have to stay in one of the hunting lodge hotels. Honestly, he had been considering selling the cabin prior to the flood because of the expense of maintining it (rental of land, property tax{it was a mobile home}, utilities, dish TV). The flood finalized any of those thoughts.

Anyway, now that the photo business is totally closed up, I need to rethink how I want to decorate the basement...not going to put up the old pictures, no need now, not trying to 'sell' my services. Hubby says we'll keep the basement as a place to go to read or just get alone. Since it's naturally cooled downstairs, he says I can go there when I'm having hot flashes.(Hot flashes, now that's a whole other subject I'll write about later) Getting old SUCKS!!!!

Getting old SUCKS but it is not so bad when you consider the alternative!

I'm glad you are both working on the flood restoration work and you will have a "cool quiet room" to enjoy next summer.

Sue.
