Still Hanging In There

Sam & I are still doing OK. It's been a while, but nothing really has changed. She's working hard, getting more strength in her right arm. She really has been working it for the past few months. We need that to get her to use a walker. She's done very well at speech therapy. She goes to a local university for the grad students to work with her. This was her 4th semester, and everyone loves her. All her Dr's are pleased with her health. All tests come back great, so we're happy.

This past year we just did our regular fishing and camping stuff. Gas prices kept us close to home, but we had fun. Getting outside and keeping busy makes her happy. We did halloween at the campsite. NOBODY else there. Just Sam and I and the dog. (With our pumpkin) It was so quiet, I thought there was something wrong with my ears!

We took a trip up to Buffalo, NY, for my parent's 50'th anniversary. That was a good time. First time most of my family saw Sam since her stroke. Also the first airline trip she took since then. Gotta give a big THUMBS UP to Southwest. They really did a FANTASTIC job making her comfortable!!!

My daughter did a class trip to Italy, and was there for 6 weeks over the summer. Kind of stressful for me to send her out. She knew where she was starting out, but where she was ending it was ??? Got a last minute call saying she was going to return out of Milan, and did I know where the airport was? Worked out OK, she got to London, Gatwick, and then home. No Problem. She had a great time. I was a happy camper to hear she was back home.

Oldest son finally graduated from the Uni of Oklahoma. Long story, but he busted his butt to finish, and we were SO proud to see him walk across the stage last week.

I've stayed pretty much "local". Got real tired of being sent all over the world with no notice. Now I just do the Ohio-LAX run. Only 2 trips a month to Guantanamo tacked on. Easy work, pays the same, doesn't take me 2 days to get home dog tired. Did get to Ireland, Germany, Peru, and Kwajalein Island this year though.

Hope everyone has a Happy New Year.

Steve, good to have an update on you and Sam again. Glad to hear you are both okay. I bet Sam is glad you are doing more local work and not spending a couple of days at home recovering from each trip.

I smiled at the "silence" you experienced during your camping trip. Ray was Fisheries Inspector for fourteen years early '70's to mid-80's and we went camping a lot with the kids as we had all the gear. I remember the noise in the mornings as all the birds screeched their heads off as dawn came. By the time we were all awake the birds had all flown away to start the day. It is nice under the stars, I do miss that part of our old life.

Keep us updated on news from your household. BTW congratulations to your son, the bigger the fight, the greater the glory.

Sue.

Steve:

you are being modest about everything being OK. from your blog I could see you had so many nonordinary moments in life & building longlasting memories of Sam by your side. I wish you Happy New year to you & your family.
