Life of A Survivor

WOW!! I'm Bad Bacteria Free!

The bad bacteria in my body is now gone. Just a stool sample to turn in this morning is all I got left to do. My doctor called me yesterday at 433 and gave me the news. All I got left to do is turn in a stool sample this morning. I feel better already! Thanks again for all your support!   My next problem to solve is being able to stand up from my seat at church, home, or any place I sit down! That has to do with my knees and the arthritis I got. Other than that I can deal with everything else

World News with many Unknowns

Since, as a stroke survivor, I have slowed down and able to listen, watch, and read more of what's happening around this world. There are some interesting stories lately that leaves me saying, duh!! I'm glad and proud, it tells me my damaged brain is still useful and recovering.   The death of former Sen. Eugene McCarthy, who died in his sleep at an assisted living home, where HE HAD LIVED FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS, according to his son, Michael.   At the age of 89, I would think he owned a

Words That Can't Be Used At Veterans Funerals

Unbelievable! Two days before the 4th Of July, I get this disturbing email from my Army retired buddies informing me of a decision the VA has made concerning Funerals of soldiers killed in action! Just yesterday three more soldiers from Fort Hood died in Afghanistan! Now, their families can't hear the word God at their funerals. THIS IS UNBELIEVEABLE IN AMERICA!     VA Bans Mention of God at Funerals for Vets "The hostile and discriminatory actions by the Veterans Affairs officials in Housto

Words Of Wisdom For The Graduates Everywhere

We need heroes today. We need someone to believe in and look up to. We need someone who has accomplished something to give us the courage to believe in the invisible. We need role models and men whose shadows we may stand in, men who provide a cool refreshing place of safety away from the despair of our oppressive society. It's just that all the "Supermen " in the church seem to have somehow gotten zapped by "Kryptonite." Either they or their reputations have wilted into the abyss of human failu

Winter Time

Well, here we are in January already with 3 days left in the month. Seems like the christmas decorations just been put away, and in my part of the country, we have not used the heater yet. I suppose the global warming is still a factor. That's a good thing with the early prediction of how much the heating would cost us this winter. I think across the board, the prices has risen sharply for gas, coal, and electric services.   I think there has to be some colder days ahead and more rain in sta

Will there be Football this Season?

Still no information on the NFL playing this season. It's still in the courts. They are letting the players in the training facilities of their teams. The Draft is being conducted as I post this blog.   Cam Newton was picked first by the Carolina Panthers. They should be a contending team this year for sure.   The first round of play is about over in basketball. The Miami Heat beat the 76Er's and I think moves into the next bracket to play the Celtics, but I'm not sure. The Spurs got another

Wife Number Four And No More For Me I'm Trusting God!!

I read Asha's Blog, low and behold, she is so right her first time around being married..... I learned why I'm married now for the fourth time and it's been 17 years already..... My longest marriage ever because God put us together in His own time.... I am so blessed to have this wife in my life especially after surviving a stroke 12 years ago now....   I met her at the bank when I went in to get a money order from a teller.... She was the supervisor and overheard my conversation with the tell

Why Now? I Seem To Be Going Down Hill In My Recovery Process

Anyone ever felt they were going backwards in their recovery process?? I'm in both therapies OT and PT and my ability to stand, walk and move my arms, legs is nearly none existence anymore! For some odd reasons I feel pretty much like I did 10 years ago when I came home in a WC unable to walk.   I never would have imagined this would be the case with me this many years later. It all started when it got very difficult for me to stand up from a seat especially if it was very low. Now there is n

Why do we run late, never early?

Have you ever wondered why we, as human beings everywhere, somehow seem to always be late getting to the place we are going? We never leave or arrive on time, We rush, we speed while driving, we just don't or won't allow ourselves enough time to be ahead of schedule. We know time waits for no one.   When we do manage to arrive early for our doctors appointments, they keep us waiting. As a rule, they are never on time with appointments either. Yet, they want to charge us for a no-show and the

Where's the Holiday Good News?

Where is the holiday good news? This has been, so far, one of the worse year ending years I can remember in a long time.   I go to bed last night, a man in california is scheduled for execution just after midnight.   I awake this morning, a New Jersey town has a giant apartment building fire from a gas explosion.   I just read Jean's blog, Goals and Goulish things, she has a full schedule, seems like a full week of caregiver items to accomplish on achey knees and more snow coming. be ca

When we lose a part of the Brain It's not the end of life

You know, it's hard to accept that we will be like we are, in most cases, for the remainder of our lives. We first hear from the ER doctors at the hospital, then therapist, other doctors and still other doctors in certain fields of studies. If you remember none of them ever said or stated we would recover in our walking, talking or what if any, that we may get back from the stroke.   All the answers to our questions were very vague and would always end with, "I can't say what you will get back

What's The Point? Small, but interesting life!

While many of us are outdoors going about activities and remembering all our fallen heroes and those who served and still serving in harms way, I'm inside reading and praying for this world in which we live.   I came across this subject, "What's the point?" In part it says scientists once thought that the vertebrate with the shortest lifespan was the turquoise killifish. This small fish lives in seasonal rain pools in equatorial Africa and must complete its life cycle in 12 weeks before the p

What's Next? The Times Ahead

Well, for many of us we can look ahead to what's next for us. Yea, Easter is gone, tax time gone, spring half gone, so we look forward to more recovery and care giving plus summer time is now just ahead of us. In some states the weather is still a bit cooler than normal but overall not so bad! Not much else to speak of around my house. I guess the big election is almost in full swing soon as the republican candidate is known and the others commit to the front runner. Can you imagine these same r

What's Left After Irene?

We have to ask ourselves what is left after Irene, the hurricane or tropical storm? Thank God it never got to be category 2 or 3 with winds 130mph and more. The damage it done is a lasting sight and the effect will be with those states and the people for the rest of their lives.   Most of the people that witness this storm don't remember earlier storms in 1927 or 1938 in their states. It could be many years again before something like this hit the same areas again. Vermont seems to have gotten

What you see riding a scooter around Walmart

Well, I found out it only takes 5 days to reach page two in the blogs. Lots of bloggers, that's good news, more stress and venting being released by members. More journals being kept too.   Another phase of my life I now notice is my lack of fashions knowledge. I can think back to about 1962 when the mustang and mini skirts came out. The bell bottom pants and plat form shoes, then the micro mini skirts and short shorts in years gone by.   These days it's the underwear showing, men and wome

What would you do?

Subject: What would you do?             What would you do?....you make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice????   At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children, the father of one of the former students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question: "When not interfered w

What Welfare Can Cause

This is a report forwarded to me for my review and information. Thought I'd share with most of you!   For 15 years, from the mid 1970's to 1990, I worked in Detroit , Michigan . I watched it descend into the abyss of crime, debauchery, gun play, drugs, school truancy, car-jacking, gangs, and human depravity. I watched entire city blocks burned out. I watched graffiti explode on buildings, cars, trucks, buses, and school yards. Trash everywhere !     Detroiters walked through it, tossed

What Some Moms Are Lead To Believe From What Their Daughters Say!

Some moms can be fooled so easily and some moms you would think they are the grandparents how the young daughters can tell them anything and they believe them when you can't trust they cleaned up their room when they said they did!!   Darla's Doctor's Visit   A mother takes her 16-year-old daughter to the doctor.   The doctor says, "Okay, Mrs. Jones, what's the problem?" :zoro:   The mother says, "It's my daughter Darla. She keeps getting these cravings, she's putting on we

What Is Lent?? When Is The Observance Of Lent???

I'm glad you asked: For those in the Christian faith, the Season of Lent is typically considered to be the 40 days between Ash Wednesday (Feb 22 this year) and Easter Sunday (Apr 8 this year) and is often characterized by abstention from certain kinds of food or activities. The period is most commonly thought of as a symbol of the 40 days and nights Jesus spent struggling with the devil in the wildness.   While sometimes regarded as a predominantly Roman Catholic observance, for Christians of a

What is Happiness in Our Lives?

Happiness is the inner joy that can be sought or caught, but never taught or bought. That means to me that life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance. I logged in today and read the newbie introduction by jcr56 about her husband and couldn't help but recall my own feelings about life and where I would be in a few years after having a stroke I knew nothing about.   She stated that she would love to know what has helped us all what she can do to help he

What is Easter and the Resurrection?

Easter Sunday is the day of rejoicing that follows the sorrow of Good Friday. For most Christians, Easter is the celebration of Christ's resurrection from the dead. It bears witness to God's enduring promise of eternal life.   As the climax of Holy Week, Easter is a time of hope and assurance. It is humanity's turning point from destruction to glory and salvation. For the first three centuries, the church celebrated the real meaning of Easter in connection with the Jewish month of Nisan, which

What is Considered Progress?

Sometimes I feel as if all my progress has come to a halt for now. It's hard to explain when you remember how well you have been doing since the stroke, in my case 5 years ago. Recently I have lost my weak side control no matter what I do to keep it moving. You ever felt like rope or tape is around your body holding your arm down? Then your leg feels like it's not there or your foot is not touching the floor. That's a funny feeling for sure.   Hopefully it will go away soon. The pain has dec

What If we had NO Worries in Life?

Wouldn't it be boring if we had no worries in life???? Think of how much time we would have on our hands and a mind that is free of worries in life!! Really can you just imagine life with no worries??? I bet that kind of person would live a long life like the guy in the bible did (Methuliser) I don't know how to spell his name nor at this moment where to find it in my bible!!!   That's boring, I got no worry because if you read this blog you get my drift!! Reminds me of some of those Clint Eas

What else can we give up

More thoughts from a recovering brain!! What else will be asked to give up??   Early on, and some time ago, the question came up, how could God let something like this happen? The attack on WTC, Hurricanes in Florida last year, this year, then hurricane and flooding in New Orleans and in Texas.   Let's not forget the invasion of Iraq by US forces and the almost 2000 US lives lost as a result. What about the lives of other forces and those countrymen killed while we try to change their life

What Do You Make Of Life?

food for thought   Subject: What do you Make of Life?               Words of wisdom from a loving Mother to her Daughter.   What do you Make of Life?   A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee   You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.   A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as on
