I am getting better.  I got my Canadian license 2021, then 2023 did my American one.  Canadian one was a real mind buster.  The US was more to my liking for a hobbyist.  Haven't it flown since the weather has gotten colder.   I should get some nerve and take a flight or two to keep my skills honed.

Thanks for your concern, Apart from the big pool just below us on the common ground getting bigger we have had no serious problems. The wind messed up my garden a bit but the flat is waterproof so nothing got in. We are in a fortunate area, other parts of NZ have had it real bad . Some have no power and may be without it for months. Think there have been six deaths over NZ including one firefighter.

I am going through a bad spell of not being able to throw off Covid, Headaches which I thought I'd lost with my stroke 9 years ago, are coming back. Though not as severe as I used to have, are still uncomfortable.

Hope you are feeling better soon Deigh.

Not sure about you or anyone else here, but these days if I'm sick, I'm in bed. Can't seem to struggle along like I used to.

Covid does seem to have many lingering after effects for a great many people and as we already have screwed up immune systems (Just because no one has bothered to study it for us doesn't mean it's not true), it seems logical that we are likely candidates for long covid or these type of issues.  So glad that so far I've managed to avoid getting Covid (unless I had an asymptomatic dose).

Take it easy Deigh and hope you feel better soon.

'we already have screwed up immune systems'.

Wow Heather, that really caught my eye! Please elaborate on this comment. Have you been studying it? Or was it just something you have heard. I'm quite fascinated!

Apparently there is a study going in one of the Universities of people who haven't had Covid to see if they have built in immunity factors. Don't know which Uni. There needs more studies done to get a reliable vaccine.

For me it's so far so good.

Hi Deigh, its basically anecdotal, but most stroke survivors I’ve spoken too are much more prone to colds etc. after stroke than before. We seem to get run down easier and for longer. Possibly linked to our ongoing fatigue issues.  My neuro physio also mentioned it to me. Things like sunburn will knock me much harder now than they used to.  Also its a recognised symptom for POTS, which is one of those odd syndromes that seems to be related to many post stroke symptoms, and damaged autonomic control systems. I’ve also been told it may be part of the after effects of white matter damage. Current theories suggest that white matter does more than they originally thought. It seems to be linked to many autonomic control systems. Like temperature control and lymphatic drainage. Immune cell control is also strongly related to the autonomic systems, although immune function is not considered a direct part of it.

I know that my autonomic control systems are pretty stuffed up on my left side, and I had a massive hit to both grey and white matter which you can see on my MRI scans.

a friend with POTS suggested I get a referral to a dysautonomia clinic/specialist, but I haven’t followed it up yet.

I would love to know if someone is studying if there is link or not, but so far they assume/say that our immune systems are not compromised by a stroke, but I don’t believe that.

That's a fascinating deduction, not sure whether to agree or not but I have to limit everything I do to avoid exhaustion. Since I am 93 now I can honestly blame age plus the stroke for it. Look forward to hearing more about it though.

I'm not sure if I get run down more, but it definitely takes me a lot longer to recover. From anything really.

Busy day yesterday, so today I was in bed until 12.30pm.
