About Me

I was 47 year old full-time working mom of six, well seven, if you count my husband. Juggling home and family in addition to a full client load at a busy accounting firm, kept me hopping. I was at a family reunion trying to order at a restaurant when I just couldn't focus. My husband yelled, 'She's having a stroke!" My sister-in-law nurse agreed, and they called the ambulance. I don't remember much after that. I was 1/2 hour away from a stroke center. My life flipped upside down when I had two brain stem strokes in which they decided not to operate, since it was too risky. I am still blocked. My prognosis was bad, they thought I would always be completely paralyzed. I was put on life support, given a trach, and was locked-in with no body movement, but totally conscious. As time went on, I regained awareness, the use of my left side, and worked very hard to get the trach out. I am now using an electric chair, totally cognitive, and working daily at rehab, including water therapy three times a week. I live in a rehab center, but will be going home when my house remodel is complete. My youngest is ten, and they need their mom. I began writing thanks and newly gained outlooks on Facebook, but after much coaxing from many, I started a blog. (kimwith6.com) Positivity is my key word. My rehab has helped me get partial use of my right paralyzed side. I can stand alone and walk with help. (Those are my most popular posts!) We have a dairy farm, and my incredible husband is my biggest champion and caregiver. This is just a small bump in my road!
