when you know better, you do better

I heard above line of Maya Angelou from oprah & loved it. post stroke I have tendency to look back at my life & regret mistakes I made in my life, well in my 40 plus years I have made some good & bad choices which created my destiny. So I feel solely responsible for my own life. yes I have done mistakes in my life. that's why when I heard Maya Angelou's line " when you know better, you do better". I feel that line very comforting & forgiving. I feel free of guilt & feel as long as you learn from your mistakes & improve your life, your experience hasn't gone to waste. life is all about learning & doing better. another AHA moment for me.

That is one of my favorite quotes from Maya Angelou. The other is "people will forget what you say and what you do--they will never forget how you made them feel". That includes how we make ourselves feel.

Regret is OK if you learn from it. Guilt does nothing good. I told someone else that as Strokenet's self appointed travel agent I hereby declare all guilt trips cancelled!

You are so, so right Asha. When we know better we don't go see the same movie over and over expecting a different ending! There is no "what if" so we do better accepting what happen, what we did, learning from it and move forward positively. The good will follow, it certainly has in my cases on life. I certainly accepted my errors and many mistakes and moved forward. :happydance:

Another one Maya's quotes went something like "you did what you thought was best at the time". I keep playing that one back as it helps me. I'm still having trouble with the "guilt trips" so will have to work on that. I'm ready for the vacation Jamie but my mind is not quite there.

I was reflecting the other day of the many "poor" decisions I have made in my lifetime. Part of that is growing up so self-assured and part just youth. And yes, it has made me into who I am today. Like it or not. That is an ongoing discussion I have with myself-lol.

The last three years it is "what I thought best at the time." Part of that decision making was tempered by the poor decision I made as a younger woman, part by what I have learned and am confident in.

But I seem to take the time now to review the situation, consider alternatives and just pray to God that I am on the right track. Debbie
