olga :

welcome therapeutic world of blogging. its just 3 months give yourself time to adjust to this sudden change in your life. BTW start making small goals for yourself & start allocating enough time to finish it. stroke recovery is not a sprint. it is marathon. & worrying about things not going to help.

It's hard to guess what your situation is, like if you still have a job to go back to, and did they not give any insurance, or how your symptoms are, which might help figure out if you could get some kind of medicaid or something. Could you talk more about your stroke and your limitations. There has to be better places to get meds than the ER. I have no idea what your meds are, could any be on the $4 Walmart list?

Obamacare won't accept you? When are you supposed to get married? Does he have insurance that will cover you?

Olga: so easy to get discouraged and frustrated early on. Part of it is just finally understanding that this is a very long haul and then accepting recovery in the baby steps it is delivered in.

I agree with Asha. Small goals - today I will do the breakfast dishes, etc. Also please understand that most Drug Manufacturer's offer prescriptions free or at at discount. Have Fiancee go online to the website of the manufacturer - it will be on your prescription and register for you.

Try not to focus on the big picture right now. Work towards independence in your home and taking care of yourself. Prayers, Debbie

I am entering the fray of obtaining healthcare insurance --- good news in January they have to take you - by they i mean insurance companies ( obama "care" is a law mandating insurance companies can no longer turn you away for medical reasons / and cant charge you extra either.... also they seem to be fast tracking people into medicaid ( welfare) -- and hopefully you have applied for soc sec. but that will take 2 years to finally be eligable for medicare ( soc sec care) --- medicare and medicaid will go on with business as usual ( so to speak)... so with out knowing who, what why... i can only throw out my thoughts ........ i am assuming you have bills at a hospital from the stroke itself... if that is so, and you have applied for medicaid in your state and been denied than go to the hospital and ask for whatever charitable program they have to assist you with bills past.... then head over to your local social services and beg, plead -- demand a advocate to walk you through this.... a good advocate knows all the nuances of the social services programs and can get you help... remember you are handicapped now ( maybe for always , maybe not) but someone needs to help you by law, apply for all the programs.. so lean on your handicap , it is the ONLY time it will help you.... all the other advice on here is good ------- now one step at a time my dear...

Hi Olga,You have been gave wonderful advice. It is one step at a time, each day brings something new in the world of strokes. Nancy is so correct, get an advocate. I wish I had got one. I did get help with my hospital bills.

What happen to me, I applyed for SS, got turned down, but during this process, they said I could get SSI, which helped, so I also got medical,so I came off my husbands insurance, also got food stamps. When I got turned down, they stopped everything!

While in hospital, I met a great doctor, who let me come to him and only charged me $50, he also made sure that my meds were on Walmark $4 list.

This site is great as well.

Hand in there, take care, remember dont rush it, stay postive

You and your family are in my prayers

What! Obamacare doesn't work? Can't get disability? Surprise! Surprise! Welcome to the world of those who need! I had Visiting Nurses quit on me even though I need help with therapy and managing my BP! It took months to find someone to drive me and she is expensive. At least you have your love to hold you.....mine died.

I would suggest that you go to healthcare.gov, your state site or your doctor's site and find out who in your area helps people in your area sign up for health insurance. In my town there are two offices that you can go to to help you work through the system.
