update on Larry

Larry was transferred to a skilled nursing facility last Friday. He is receiving good care. They have him sitting up in a WC when I arrive each day. He has OT, speech, and PT. He is doing well on the feeding tube and does not need the oxygen any longer. He has taken a few steps with a hemi walker and the PT says his leg muscles are strong. He thinks he can get him back to walking soon with his cane. He is exhausted after therapy. Today I brought our Christmas cards to do while he slept. I did all of our Christmas shopping online. I need to get gifts wrapped but my daughter will help me with that as she is coming in Friday morning. My son and daughter had put up the tree and lights outside at Thanksgiving, so that was a big help.

It is sad and lonely coming home with Larry's absence. The cats keep me company. lol I feel like Larry is starting over from when he first had a stroke in 2010. I have cried a few times.

We will be with Larry Christmas Day at the SNF. The faclity is very nice and I feel comfort knowing he is getting good care. I don't know what the future will bring, but hopefully he will get stronger and I will be able to care for him here at home. We will see how he does in the next few weeks.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all here on StrokeNet

Julie, Thanks for the update. I was especially glad to hear that you're satisfied with his care, and that your children are there for you. Merry Christmas to you and yours,Becky

Everything seems to be going in a good direction.    It's good to hear such a positive report for Larry!    I do know your emotional conflicts though, we all have those lingering around the edge of our brain, even though the situation is not upon us yet.    Sending Larry prayers to keep getting stronger!

Julie, I have been in that same position and know how you visit and are as bright as you can be and then come home and worry and cry.  If this is the way you are feeling it is normal.  So sorry to hear it has come to this but as you say therapy may help and there may be another period when he can be home and you can be together again. I pray that this is so.

We miss you in chat and I know each of us is thinking of you.  Debbie keeps us up with your news. It is so hard though to go through this again and I understand your feeling that this is a repeat of the first stroke.  I felt that several times too. Hopefully that feeling will pass and you will feel reassured that there is a better part of the journey ahead.

Hoping this will all work out and that Larry will be home with you in the beginning of the new year.  I can only imagine how you feel; I will be thinking of you and praying for the best.
