MY SECOND BEST FRIEND
NOTHING UNUSUAL LATELY, SO I THOUGHT I'D FEEL GOOD AND SAY A FEW WORDS ABOUT JAKE, ONE SWEET GUY.
I HAD A FEMALE CAT NAMED SAM FOR 12 YEARS. SHE LOVED TO TRAVEL IN THE CAR, WALKED AROUND ON A LEASH, AND SPENT EVERY EVENING ON MY LAP WHILE I READ. SAM GOT SICK 2 YEARS AGO AND HAD TO BE PUT TO SLEEP.
AFTER WAITING 6 MONTHS, I WENT TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY WITH INSTRUCTIONS FROM MY WIFE: NO MALE AND NO WHITE ANYWHERE ON THE CAT. WELL, I LET THIS ONE OUT OF THE CAGE, I SAT ON THE FLOOR AND HE CLIMBED UP ON MY SHOULDER AND JUST PURRED, WHITE CHEST AND ONE WHITE LEG. I WAS HOOKED. HE WAS A STRAY FOUND ON JOHNSON ROAD, SO HE WAS NAMED JOHNSON. I GOT TIRED OF BEING ASKED HOW MY JOHNSON IS, HENCE THE NAME JAKE.
ANYHOW, I COULDN'T TAKE HIM HOME, SO I WAITED A FEW DAYS, AND BROUGHT MY WIFE OVER TO THE SHELTER. I TOLD HER TO SIT ON THE FLOOR AND I WOULD LET SOME CATS OUT FOR HER TO LOOK AT. WELL JAKE SHOWED UP, CLIMBED ON HER SHOULDER, AND THE REST IS HISTORY. HE WAS MY WIFE'S COMPANION WHEN I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL.
HE HAS HIS HABITS. WHEN THE FIRST LIGHT COMES UP, HE BANGS THE PORTABLE TELEPHONE THAT MAKES NOISE SO WE KNOW IT'S TIME FOR HIS BREAKFAST. IF HE WANTS TO GO OUTSIDE. HE PACES AT THE DOOR, TALKING UP A STORM. AT NIGHT WHEN IT'S TIME FOR BED, WE PLAY WITH HIS TOYS.
I JUST FELT LIKE MENTIONING SOMEONE WHO BRINGS PLEASURE TO MY LIFE EVERY DAY. MY BUDDY.
HE'S LEERY OF ME BECAUSE OF THE WAY I WALK
