Mom's contest results
Well, I haven't gotten a chance to actually speak to my mom yet, but she left me a voice message telling me the results. She was not the $10,000 winner of the Build a better burger contest, but she did say she was enjoying the trip.
All 10 contestants got to stay at the Sutter Home (the sponsor) Bed and Breakfast for two nights, and she and my step dad are spending an additional 2 nights in San Francisco doing their own thing since they have never been.
I went to the http://buildabetterburger.com contest site, and they already have posted the pictures from the event, including all the recipes. If you visit, my mom is in the second photo, on the far left. There are a few more photos I can see her in as well, but the others you kinda have to pick her out in a crowd. If you are interseted in reading her recipe entry, (this is not the exact title, but you'll find it) it is a pork tenderloin burger with carmelized onions and apple relish with easy BBQ sauce.
I always find it amusing, the length of the names of the recipes! Not just my mom's, but in general. I know the reasoning behind it (makes it seem unique or gourmet) but who could possibly remember the full name if they were just cooking these recipes for the heck of it. And should you decide to look at the list of recipe finalists and entries, there is one recipe submitted (who was an alternate in case someone backed out) that I swear the recipe title was a full paragraph long. By the time I was done reading the title I needed a nap, not to mention a refresher course on what the heck the burger was. But still, I bet if anyone actually ever made it, it would be delicious!
Anyway, check it out if your interested. It looked like they had beautiful weather! Also, try not to feel too bad for my mom. This is HER hobbie, and she is no stranger to these competitions. We are just waiting for her to get that one BIG win. She'll get her next big shot in March, when she is flown to Miami for the Pillsbury bake-off.
I love my mom, SHE RULES!!!
