The First Weekend

It went well I think. I will break it down in sections.

Sleeping: I was uncomfortable as hell, but Lisa slept fine. I've been sleeping by myself for 8 months and was used to the room. Lisa wakes up twice a night to go to the bathroom, but it beats the alternative. Grade: A-

Bathing: OMG. I need to work out a better plan for that. There were many instances when I felt out of control and an accident was waiting to happen. Lisa said it went fine, but I didn't think so. She wasn't as safe as she could be. My fault. Grade: C-

Therapy and Exercise: We have to do therapy at home on Tues, Thurs, and Sat. We spent about an hour doing her routine and then a nice walk. Went great. No complaints and she said it felt good to exercise at home. Grade: A

Housework and Cooking: I'm still doing all that stuff. If it's not laundry, it's cleaning, or cooking. It seemed like I was a maid all weekend. She could be doing some of the lighter things but I am "enabling" her. I need to let her be for a while when I am home to try things for herself. So more Playstation time for me. Grade: B

Work: Today is the first day Lisa is home by herself. Granted, it's only for about 2 hours. I'm a nervous wreck. I told her she needs to have her cell phone on her at all times and call me if there's a problem. She called me right away this morning (with the kids home asleep) and I almost had a heart attack. Just to pick up some milk. Lisa thought it was hilarious. It will get better with time. Grade: B

hey Butch :

overall you guys did pretty ok first weekend, I remembr my first week home, my hubby would getup every time I needed to go to bathroom, and now I have to fall on him to wake him up, I guess he is more confident of my ability now than he was before

Hey Butch,

You're doing great!!! The only grade you gave yourself that I disagree on is the housework and Cleaning. Change that to a C+. You don't get B's until you quit enabling. smile.gif

Butch,

Try not to be so hard on yourself, things will get easier and better with time.....

Pam

PS. No enabling is allowed.

Butch-

I am glad things went well. I almost replied again to your last blog yesterday to ask how it was going, but decided not too since I figured you'd let us know when you could. Now that she is home, don't forget to stop in here and give us updates when you can! Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS AND tell her we said WELCOME HOME!

Butch, I can quote Asha's reply, my fiance Greg was a nervous wreck when I came home and would also get up through the night when I needed the bathroom, but that has worn off now. Bathing was also a story, Greg would "throw" me in the bath and "haul" me out again - not very gracefully either! but that has also gotten better, I can now bath myself. Things have a way of working themselves out, you will soon get into a comfortable routine. Glad she is home though, good luck to you both.

Butch, you do have a shower chair for a walk in shower? Or no walk-in shower? I find them a great help. I don't use the chair- did only once but like to help my balance although I have a grab bar there also.

As the others said, You are doing great. OK, now - slowly let Lisa ease back into preparing food and beginning chores, light dusting etc. That's the way to learning. No knives when preparing food yet or getting near hot stove. That time will come and now you don't need cuts and burns.
