RING, RING, RING

SO TODAY I TOOK MY WIFE OUT FOR LUNCH. SEATED IN A BOOTH WITH A SENIC VIEW,

I OBSERVED A WOMAN SITTING DIRECTLY BEHIND ME, IN HER MID FIFTIES. ALL WAS WELL UNTIL THE LADY DECIDED TO MAKE A CALL ON HER CELLULAR PHONE WHILE WAITING FOR HER MEAL. SO I LISTENED TO ALL HER AILMENTS, TESTS SHE JUST TOOK AT THE HOSPITAL, AND HER CONVERSATION WITH THE DOCTOR.

I CALLED THE WAITRESS OVER AND SUGGESTED SHE COLLECT THE CHECK BEFORE SHE SERVED THE WOMAN HER FOOD. DIDN'T SOUND LIKE SHE WOULD MAKE IT THROUGH LUNCH. SHE HEARD MY CONVERSATION WITH THE WAITRESS, HUNG UP THE PHONE, AND LET ME KNOW SHE WAS FINE.

NOW I THINK CELL PHONES SHOULD BE BANNED FROM ALL RESTAURANTS. WE DID FINE YEARS AGO WITHOUT THEM, WHY NOT NOW? WHO IS SO IMPORTANT THAT THEY CAN'T ENJOY A MEAL WITHOUT ONE?

i use my cellphone as my emergency number for my practice, so i have to carry my cellphone wherever i go (it's much easier than carrying a beeper.)

if i'm in a public place, and my caller i.d. tells me that this is a phone call that i have to take, i tell the person to hold on, excuse myself, and go into another place where the conversation would not be overheard, either outside, in a hallway, etc.

like any other non-sentent euqipment, it's not the cellphone that's annoying, it's the human that's using it.

Marty,

I have to agree with Sandy on that one. Unfortunately, most people don't have the common sense to not impose their phone conversations on others. The scariest thing I heard just today was that they were considering allowing people to use them on planes, during flight time. Can you imagine being stuck sitting next to some jerk who wants to yak away throughout a 2 hour flight?

Agree with you Marty. I hate cell phones but do have one for emergencies. I had a car which would get stuck a lot. One night, when it did, a car drove up and a woman stuck her cell phone up and asked if I needed help. So, for that they are good- or for women who are out alone at night. Also though, "sick" people who go anywhere alone could find one helpful.

The truth is I carry mine, turned off when it should be on for work.

Marty, guess you don't go to women's rest rooms. They are very popular there. LOL!

I agree cell phone use should be limited so as not to bother, or worse, endanger other people.

I remember, years ago now, when I was really glad when I was going to a clients. I enjoyed being "out of pocket," that is not immediately available. The truth is that almost all situations can wait an hour. Those who need to be in touch with their office can regularly check their voice mail. For some reason many these days think their lives are the most important. This is true for both those who are making the calls and those receiving them.

Not too long ago, my husband and I were enjoying a lovely meal at our favorite restaurant.

Seated at a nearby table was a young attractive couple. I was astonished to observe them both chattering away on their cell phones, while seeming to ingore each other. I am not sure whether they enjoyed the food. They obviously did not appear to enjoy one another's company. How sad.

since i have Kanye West's "Gold Digger" (downloaded actual rap from Verizon) on my cell as my ringtone, i especially have to be respectful of people in public places, and set my cellphone on a silent setting when i am in a restaurant.

Marty,

This subject is beginning to be a pet peeve of mine. I don't want to hear other peoples conversations. Most people aren't respectful as Sandy is.

I can't tell you how many times someones been in a bathroom stall next to me or walking behind me on a plane, and I keep hearing.."Hello....Hello?.... HELLO? I finally say "What?!!!" Only to find out they are on a call.

I think people have attached too much importance to the damn things. They should be banned from restaurants.
