hey Ken:

One of our relative whose whole family is doctor she got thyroid cancer 2 years back, doctors treating her told that if my family had to get cancer I would pray for thyroid cancer it's 99.9% curable, our relative is cancer free for now 2 years after her treatment, even radiation is easy cause thyroid gland go alongside whole body so radiation also works very well. so tell your family not to worry, just a bump in life's journey.

Ken, hopefully it's early and the thyroid is all that;s involved. A person can live without a thyroid and just take thyroid in pill form. My sister's was over-active and it was gotten rid of with what they called "an atomic cocktail". That was in the 40's or 50's and she's taken the suppplement since. Just has to make sure it is right amount every now and then.

Sending prayers. Everything will be ok.

Yes, Ken, it is treatable and heaps of people grow old without a thyroid. My Mum had hers out when I was in my teens so maybe 40 years ago. No radiation then and she is still going, well she has Alzheimers but she is also nearly 88.

So your neice could live a long and happy life. Hope it works out that way. In the meantime support her and her family all you can. We have lots of really good specialists here so no panic.

Hi Ken:

I'm sorry to hear this. My cousin's son who was 19 at the time was also diagnosed with thyroid cancer. He had his thyroid removed and received several chemo treatments and is now doing fine. This was 3 years ago.

Keep the faith...My prayers are with you and your family.
