Still Trying

At long last my walking is still improving as the weather has become unbearably hot here in Sydney i haven't been using the AFO as much as i should but at least i'm not ripping the toe nails off like i use too, so at least my gait is getting better and slowy i'm getting better heal strike. It's funny, i feel the muscles are untangling themselves and loosing their tightness and stiffness as well. The other great thing is that my balance is getting better, i'm not leaning to the left as much. so hopefully i can get over this drop foot problem.

Then i can overcome this fear of falling and breaking bones.

Today my daughter starts her first job as a trainee at a local bowling club learning chef work, bar work, admin, gaming, and reception. she hopes to become a chef eventually.

It's good to hear your walking and balance is improving. Mine improved after my 1st stroke anniversary.. It is not perfect, but much improved.

Congrats to your daughter and best wishes on "chef" :chef:

hey Ken:

I also have foot drop but I think whilw walking I do hip hiking(not pretty sight) to clear my toe and not stumble while walking, but I have found out about walkaide(which is nerve stimulator which replaces AFO, and you can wear any kind of shoes with walkaide and since it's not plastic, it's perfect for hot weather, I went for my first eval and turns out to be candidate for it, so going for trial this coming wednesday, I am very excited about it, though it's cost;y device and not covered by insurance, I think if it's going to help than I will get it, and as Bonnie says your balance and walking will improve more as you keep at it, congrats to your daygther.

Hey Ken--

Silly me! I read your blog (this one) yesterday. How could I forget so fast that you do have a blog.

I loved hearing about your daughter's efforts to become a chef. The reason I was in the hospitality field for more than (20) years was because of the delicious food in that industry! I love good food. Also, I really admired the people who worked in the kitchen because I don't think there is a harder job. They put out essentially (5) meals a day and they have such stress in getting everything out on time at the right temperature and looking spiffy.

I coordinated conferences which required attention to detail, keeping guests happy and some stress to make sure all departments were singing from the same page.

Congrats to your daughter. Take Care. LK
