Lovistatin
Larry's doing OK. He had a slight fever yesterday, but it's gone today and he was in good spirits.
I'm concerned about the Lovistatin that he's been taking for high cholesterol. He was on this before the stroke and was taken off it because he had a bad reaction. The same thing happened to my mother - severe leg pain. My mom has permanent muscle damage because of it; fortunately, because of her experience, we knew enough that when Larry started having leg pain we got him off it right away.
After the stroke the doctor put him back on it. When I saw him yesterday I thought he had just had a shower, because he was soaking wet. It turned out that he had been perspiring so heavily that the bed was soaked. The fever had apparently just broken. Larry took my hand and put it on his abdomen to tell me that it hurt, and was rubbing his thighs, too. Stupid me - I did not put it together until today, when he was doing the same thing. Kaiser sends an email every time there's a lab test, and I got one today indicating an elevated liver function test. I looked at the chart and there's a notation from today that says he's off Lovastatin for now because of the LFT readings, and the light bulb finally went on.
It's hard not being there during the day; I have to just piece it together as best I can. I emailed his case manager and asked about all this and requested that someone call me tomorrow and tell me what's going on.
Larry did have the full regimen of therapy today, and all of the therapists said in the notes that he was cooperative and did well. Hopefully the Lovastatin issue will not cause a problem; I think he got off it in time. The side effects of some of these meds are pretty scary, and Larry is on 12 different drugs right now. I would really like to see him come off of some of them, but the doctors say he needs them all. I just do not know what to believe...it seem so excessive to me.
Enough for one day, I'm pretty wiped out. My poor tired little brain just won't do any more!
