E-STEM DEVICE

Well, I did it. I hope I bought a good one, and didn't get conned by fancy talk. I know the e-stem (electrical stimulation of muscles) worked great on his leg in rehab, but they ignored his arm. I just bought one and hope and pray it will bring his arm to life. It also is a tens machine, which apparently means, when on the tens setting it interrupts pain signals and therefore helps pain.

No history with e-stem, but this would be a god place for Stroke Net to have a device clearinghouse, just for this as an example

Good Luck with it and I hope it helps

they are probably afraid it would turn into a spam/advertisement bed. But I will post here and on the forum e-stem post under therapies that I made - how I like it, how easy it is to use and just what we are getting out of it.

They have tried an estem device on my fiance's arm and it seemed to help. The only problem is they haven't brought it out to use but once, seems they only have one for the entire OT staff and they have to share it. If yours works good could you please give some info on where to order it and how much it costs. Thanks for any info you can give! Good luck in the recovery process.

If you click on the link in my post at the top of this page, you'll see the one I bought. BUT, I bought one that also has TENS for accute pain, which my husband has. There are ones around $60 if you just need the e-stem part. Click on muscle stimulators in the left frame of that page to see more.

I will defintely be giving reports on both the e-stem and the TENS (for accute pain) once we get it and start using it.

We have tried a tens for the pain. Doesn't seem to work very well. OT therapist said there isn't much to help nerve pain which is what Mike has in his wrist and palm area of the left hand. But thanks I will check out the link for the estem.
