Larry's sleep study
Well I just put Larry's favorite dinner in the oven, which is meatloaf. It's one thing he will eat! The weather has turned cool but we still have a warm up coming. I'd rather have the sun and warmth than winter. So hard to get around in the cold weather season.
Well on Friday Larry had to be at Mercy Hospital at 7:30 p.m. for his sleep study. He had a fairly busy day and did more walking than usual. He was told not to nap and so he was tired by the time he arrived. The tech welcomed us and took us into a room that was cheerful in the decor made to be for a children's room. It took the tech 1 hour to hook all of the electrodes in Larry. He was happy Larry was bald as most of these went in his head. Larry made a joke about looking like Frankenstein. He even laughed, which is rare. I was starting to get sleepy myself from all the days activities and went to bed when Larry did at 9:15 p.m. They had another bed in the room for me as the tech was not allowed to help Larry with the urinal. He also didn't help much in adjusting Larry to the bed as Larry is tall and his head was too close to the headboard. I finally got him lowered, wires and all. The room was pitch dark and cold. I told Larry this was so wierd, sleeping in the same room with the tech monitoring Larry's moves/sleep and hearing what we said. The tech came in the room a few times to adjust the wires. Larry had trouble turning and getting in his sleep position but did the best he could. He never complains. At 4:15 a.m. the tech came in and said Larry did not have much sleep to record. I think he was ready to end it if we wanted. I said "can we wait a couple more hours?" He then came back at 6 a.m. and was ready to discharge us. He said he didn't know if there was enough to tell if Larry had sleep apnea but the doctor would decide. I said "I don't know how anyone can sleep with all those wires attached". Anyway, we packed up and left and went straight home and to bed. It took all the next day for us to recover. :Zzzz:
I was disappointed as I thought they surely would see Larry's sleep apnea and measure him while we were there. I hope they can judge from his sleep that he has sleep apnea. I don't want to do another overnight! If they could only have heard Larry snoring and gasping last night!
