a tooth problem....

Friday. William was chewing a piece of gum. His crown came out. Friday, sat and Sun. We had soup and soft food. This was good ...it is like dieting.

Today, I took him to the lab for blood work, then I called the dentist to see if they could see him today. Yes, they got him in. Unfortunatley, the tooth is rotted. Under the crown there is a cavity and an abscess. The tooth has had alot of work and is not salvageable. We had to get a referral to an oral surgeon.

We made it to the pool. I had to cancel the echo with the cardiologist because it was at the same time as the dentist. The cardiologist is rescheduled for Friday. The Oral surgeon consult is on Wed and the surgery is set for Thurs.

I have a rheumatologist appt for myself on Wed. at noon. Wed at 2 William has the dental consult. I need to work at 3P on Wed. I have decided to have the caretaker come at 11A to watch William. I have told William to have the dentist call me for the consult.

at 11A on thur the tooth should be pulled. I will be working until 3P.

Friday , I have a gynecology appt at 9:15A and William has his echo at 4P. This will be a crazy week. At least everything will be done by the end of the week.

Fortunately, I took Monday and Friday off work. Time to make those doctor appt.s.

I explained to William that old teeth do that. They rot under crowns sometimes.

I have been going to the cold water pool. I bought a h20gear water shirt. It keeps William warm enough to use the cold pool. This is so much easier for me.

Yes, I had to start William on Amoxil for the tooth abscess. Luckily the abscess is on the weak affected side. It does not bother him. This is a good thing about the stroke. Less pain...because of lack of feeling.

I will be glad when this week is over.

Ruth: you book your medical stuff as wild as your swimming and trips-lol.

I too have started to let Jen take Bruce to the follow up appointments. With the dentist and echo, I agree you have to be there. But like you, I can be reached by telephone if need me. We have a November like your October.

Bruce had an infected jaw that required out patient surgery several years back. Think I told the story of the xanax at some point. He was in the dental chair upside down for almost six hours. They had to keep righting him to keep his blood pressure steady. Post stroke I kept up dental appointments every three months, alternative the Peridontist and his Dentist. None of his dental is covered and finally told the Peridontist that we could only afford two visits a year. Bruce's dentist will let us know if there is a problem.

Am glad you caught the problem early and dentist was able to fit you right in. Let us know how it goes.

I too love that H20gear. Try their swimsuits when you need a new one. Fabulous! Good week and remember to take a breath! Debbie

Ruth you have a lot on your plate with working too. We have appts. galore too lately. Larry goes for his 23 hr care colonoscopy this week. He just went to his internist who say's he needs to have some blood work but no hurry. I am 5 mo. late in getting to my dentist so I go next week. Larry use to go to his periodontist every 6 wks and then his regular dentist in between. The last time he went to the periodontist he said we could stretch his time out and go to his regular dentist and see him after that. I don't know if he felt sorry for him, or the hygienist got scared when Larry had a coughing spell that lasted and lasted. The sleep test is the 1st. of Nov. and on and on. I'm glad William feels no pain. Yes, the stroke does keep away some pain. Larry use to have plantar fasceitous (sp?), but that doesn't bother him either anymore. So, there is some good news.

Ruth, I am exhausted just thinking about your week! I too tried to keep Dick's dental appointments after his first strokes but it became more and more difficult. Within months of the stroke he had to have two teeth pulled. Then the VA pulled another three. Now he has lost at least three more. The doctor says it is all due to his compromised vascular system. He still manages a steak though!

Ruth,

It's good you could get in to see a doctor so soon. Tooth pain is bad all by itself. I don't see how your energy level stay so high doing all you do daily and still working too. My wife would have fainted doing just half of what you do with William.

I'm so thankful I got a scooter and can drive my car. I had the same problem with a temp crown coming out and having to visit the VA. My perm crown should be back in a couple more days.

Fred!
