Larry and Julie and CPap Nightmares

Larry finally went to his follow up appointment with the Nuero after starting the CPap machine. He went through two overnight sleep studies, 3 home visits from sleep therapists, and two different masks! He has settled for the over the nose and mouth mask. He wore the mask faithfully for 4 hours and also for his naptime. He passed compliance. When we went to see the Nuero, he said "Larry, even though you are wearing the mask for only 4 hours, you are getting the benefit from the sleep apnea machine". I said "but he is not SLEEPING with the mask". The Nuero then shook his head. He gave Larry a lecture about the benefits of wearing it and also noted Larry stops breathing 39 times an hour. Larry had tried Ambien, which had no effect, and is not trying a generic of Xanax , but the Dr. said for only two weeks, as it can become addictive. So far, he has tried the new medicine and it has helped a little. I am trying to keep him up longer also. I don't know what else to do. He can't stand wearing it all night and takes it off. I wish I could help him get use to it but it's up to him. He is to call the Dr. back in two weeks.

The weather has been mild here and we are getting rain this afternoon. I think we will have warm weather all next week with an 80 degree temp forecast one day! Of course, we pay for this with virus and flu going around. So far, we have missed getting sick.

I even got Larry to go out to eat last Friday night. He loves cheeseburgers and he ate a very large one plus slaw, and, of course milk. He has been trying to eat more finally. We don't have all the results back from his tests from the endocrinoligist but they are usually normal. He did go to his workout at the rehab center twice and I'm going to try to continue that. He works harder there.

My son came over yesterday and went through the yard like a white tornado. He trimmed down bushes, raked and mowed the lawn. We had a lot of pinecones on the lawn from my neighbors trees. He just mowed them down. lol Anyway, the yard looks good.

We went to church again last night and it was so nice to go in mild weather. Today is grooming day for Larry - nails clipped, hair (what is there) trimmed, and shower. I have limited his TV time and that seems to be working. He is to do exercise, word book, computer or anything else instead.

I have had some "Me" time going to volunteer on Thursday and then out to lunch with a friend.

We will both do some socializing this coming weekend as Larry's son is having a surprise birthday party on St. Patrick's Day. That is his actual BD and he will turn the big 40. It should be fun.

Hope you all have a good week ahead.

Julie

Keep up working with the Cpap ...

I am glad to hear that Larry ate the entire cheeseburger. Good for him.

Yes, you are blessed that your son...did your yard.

I hope that you enjoy the good weather next week. We should have good weather also.

This weekend has been wet. But, we need the rain. We just cannot get out in the rain.

Julie: my goodness, from not leaving the house to the week you both just had-amazing. I know how exhausting this is for you, but again, we all use what can with the feedback we get.

There is no way Bruce would hand over his TV remote-lol! He is turning it off more often now, expecially after lunch. But trust me, it is not for long.

I hope the Xanax helps Larry. Here I am complaining about putting on a brace, when you are struggling with the issue of breathing. You are doing great honey. And Larry is a trooper to continue to at least try. I was thinking, how Kira calms Bruce down. Would Lucy or Furby sleep with him with the CPap on? so he could pet and cuddle with one of them?

So many other issues are moving forward for both of you. Spring is coming and maybe with the house opened up and some nice fresh air, Larry too will feel some new strength and determination. Seems he is a strong and wonderful man-open to suggestions and considerations about what may help him.

Now that the yard is cleaned up, maybe he will be agreeable to sitting outside a bit after dinner, watching sunset and that too will help with some calmness and relaxation before the CPap.

Good week honey and just keep up the good fight. Debbie

I have mild apnea 6.5 times per hour but I managed to get a CPAP prescribed anyway. I was convinced that would solve my fatigue probem. I finally quit using it when one night I spent 2 hours staying awake concentrating on breathing out against the incoming air. I had the nose only mask so I couldn't relax my lower jaw enough to fall asleep but still keep it locked enough not to let air escape. I gave up on it. I would prefer a dental one but since mine isn't bad I'll just live with it.
