Scams....via e-mail

I was reading my e-mail yesterday and read one sent from a friend of mine. It said that she had gotten mugged in Wales and was stranded without any money. She was at a public library using the internet and needed somebody to wire her cash via Western Union.

i felt so bad for her. She was not able to get in touch with her family and said that the motel would not let her leave until the bill was taken care of and that she was nervously waiting for somebody to reply.

Anyway, i don't check the e-mail every day. So , I was too late to help her.

I was talking to my son and he told me that it was a scam. People e-mail or get hold of you via facebook and ask for cash. Never send cash.

He told me that visa and credit cards or her bank or the embassy would have helped her. Besides he did not believe that she would get mugged in Wales.

i tried to call her. But her answering machine was full. Probably other people got the e-mail and were trying to check up on her. i don't even know if she is actually in a Wales.

Anyways....FYI...You may be as naive as me. Now beware. I usually just delete weird e-mai. Since. I know her i read it.

its scam, I m glad you did not fall for it.I have heard about this kind of scams in news. I guess watching depressing local news has helped me be aware of all this kind of scams.

Yes, that is a scam Larry received in his E-Mail account, as did some of his friends. That is another reason not to put so much info out there on yourself. People know how to get to you even so. We had our credit card used by someone in Atlanta. Thankfully, the credit card company called us on it, and told us to stop using our card and they would send a new one. I try to be very careful with calls and E-Mails asking for information or offering something free.

Ruth: fortunately you read the Emails late. We don't have enough to worry about and now friends' IDs getting hacked. In the early days, if you did not know the sender, you didn't open the Email. Now, nothing is safe.

Glad it worked out. and you were saved a mess. Good weekend, Debbie

I get these all the time. Not sure how scammers can highjack an email, but they do so regularlly. It is easy to tell because as in your case, the message is not believable. Often the English is very bad. Obviously it is not really from the person it seems to have come from.

If you are really worried, contact the person by phone or email (not through the link) to set your mind at ease.
