Well today was Caydens ENT apt. and we have some good news and bad news. I know alot of people would like the bad news first unfortunately the good news needs to come first because it wouldnt sound right giving the bad news first.

THE GOOD NEWS: He will out grow this throwing up through the nose deal. He also does not have cleft palat...however you spell it. He says that this is very rare to have cleft uvula without the cleft palat. He listened to his speach and he said that Cayden doesnt sound nasaly when he speaks so that is a sign that he doesnt have cleft palat.

THE BAD NEWS: He wont out grow it until he turns 12 or 13!!!!!! We have 7 more years of this frightful throwing up. He also said that he is not to drink from a drinking fountain because that also comes out of his nose because he is having trouble blocking his nose. The stroke is what is keeping him from being able to block his nose and controlling that. He is hoping that Cayden will be able to control his uvula so he can block his nose when he throws up.

He also told us that Cayden is not allowed to get his tonsils or his adnoids out because that will make this nose problem worse and that even to do surgery on his uvula will be too rough for Cayden.....but if he doesnt outgrow it by JR high that he will need the surgery. Please pray that he does get control over this.

Dyan: thank you for updating. I was wondering how our boy was doing!

The good news is that he is diagnosed and you have a game plan. There are some things you can do to help make the problem less fearful and while 7 years seems a long time, you may see improvement, however slight, over the next few years.

Always in my prayers. Debbie

My older son had a throwing up problem and it did ease off about 8 or 9. His was some kind of birth damage and was devastating up to 12 months but gradually reduced.

You are working on each problem as it comes along and that is certainly the best way of handling things.

(((hugs))) to you all from Sue.

Dyan,

At least this is something that can be taken care of with time. That is a blessing.

You are managing well and taking things in your stride.

Keep up the good work.

Dyan, so sorry to hear the bad news but maybe things can change in time. New treatments or just proving the doctor's are wrong about the time frame, etc. Cayden will be in my prayers.

I am out of the loop with Cayden's problems, but I can tell you one thing. I had my tonsils & adinoilds taken out in my 20s, and EVERYTHING I drank flew out my nose. I had to learn to drink soooo carefully and tilt my head back a little. Finally, after months, can't remember how many, it no longer happens. I imagine that vomit coming out your nose would burn just like heartburn does your throat - really bad. Seems I remember something along those lines.
