Thankful I didn't blow us all up for Thanksgiving :)

Today was Thanksgiving Day in the US, and I'd like to say how thankful I am that I didn't blow us all up! Today was the day I decided to awaken the sleeping Crackin (boiler). With tomorrow comes the highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s, it has to be cold enough to light it, because it requires a draft pipe to feed air to it so you don't aphixiate, and so it needs to be cold enough that the boiler runs hard enough that the draft is eaten up with the immense heat of it, or the draft will freeze you! Something like this should only have been installed in a basement, as drafts wouldn't matter so much, as a draft tearing right by the couch, as it does. When it does run full blast, it is like a fireplace/pot belly stove, really intense heat.

Anyway, so I read the list of steps to turn things off and to light it and did the deed. Then went to turn the breaker back on, and turn up the thermostat. I then came back to see if it had started up... good thing... when the plumbing valves had stuck last year, I'd sprayed them with WD40 oil lubricant, and there sat the oil can, on top of the boiler. Boy did my eyes bug out when they landed on it! I could just see the boiler starting up and getting to that high temperature and exploding that can, and wrecking the propane line and blowing it and it's tank source up, too. Oh my, for the lack of a glance, we'd all be splattered by now... so thankful.

I have been unable to write lately because of our 2 and 3 appts a day. We are trying to use as many of our 60 therapies a year, before the end of the year, when we lose them. I have FINALLY received some info on my husbands health history, that I'll share later, in a different post.

It wasn't your time to Blow not even to Go so the good Lord had you in His hands watching over you every minute, you were not alone in spirit!!!!!!

I know what you are dealing with making those appointments and load/unload the WC then pushing too, my wife got so so tired I was about 220 pounds then!!

Seems like a good time was all about you this Thanksgiving Day!!! Now getting ready for Christmas with decorations on the door, window, and setting up the tree will keep you busy for a week or so!!!!

Good grief, that sounds like something I would have done on my busier days as a caregiver, not enough mind and too much on it! Glad it all turned out so well.

Keep warm and enjoy the holidays.

Sandy: I echo Nancy: Good Grief! Sure sounds complicated and yes, so glad you didn't take out the block - LOL. But you know what Sandy, I think having to be 100% responsible for everything nowadays, just makes us more safety conscious. That is why you went back and checked! There is someone looking out for all of us.

Reminds me of the old Clash of the Titans movie: "Release the Kracken" LOL

Great idea on running out the therapy. Good for you all and I hope all is going well. Debbie

Yes, it is just like the movie - that is where it comes from! We actually have TWO Krackens here! One is our cat that has become an outside cat since Bob's stroke. He is a marker, and I just can't spend the rest of my life crawling on my knees wiping off his urine from everything, and I mean everything, NO MORE! As the weather has become cold, I have allowed him into the garage. When he wants out, I announce to Bob, "I am going to release the Kracken!" - and I open the garage door. The Cat Kracken is in for the night, and boiler Kracken will not sleep again till spring :)
