Bridesmaids

Back in 2009, I told my seven friends from grammar school, they insisted they were to be bridesmaids. Now, mind you we have all been in each other's weddings over the years, of course. They called Bruce immediately - we were all together for a monthly dinner - insisting. Then Bruce stroked. We had picked up our wedding rings that morning. So we have laughed, all of us, over the years. Was it the seven bridesmaids or the wedding rings?

Now wedding is back on and the seven are looking for dresses, as we speak - LOL. Then I have my buds here, our Tuesday chatters. So I have another seven. This is one way too big wedding party and how are they all going to agree on a dress! Not to mention my sister, Brittany, Izabella, Melissa and Liz.

Having so much fun with this. We'll be Skyping the world. And I am sure Fred expects a boutiniere! LOL. Debbie

Hope I can hook into your Skype too, we got our new HDTV but whether it accesses of course I didn't pay attention when I made my final choice. But I know my laptop is ready to go. What color are your bridesmaids wearing? Do you also have 14 men lined up?

LOL: Sting: It is just my friend Chris and Bruce's Godson, Dan. But I will say we are having some fun with it. I take Bruce to do everything and that gets him out more. I have a Wedding notebook so I can keep those details separate - not much wiggle room for lapses - LOL - and he goes through that every night. It is separated by areas: guests, clothing, menu, etc and he adds or checks off. Plus all the extra exercise: in and out of the car, moving himself about in the WC, carrying stuff to the car, checkout or signing papers. He is exhausted and ready for bed at night and really sleeps well.

We all know this level of activity can't be kept up. Reminds me sometimes of the routine that first year post stroke, but this is a happy time, and I think that is the difference. In those early days, recovery was just so slow, it was disheartening to work so hard, be so tired and see so little results. Now it is lets go order the flowers and what is more fun that looking at pretty flowers. But he is recovered almost fully cognitively so now also understands what is happening, what we are doing and why. That also is positive.

I know things will not change. On December 9th, after family goes back home, it is back to our daily routines. But I also think that he has some connection now to his life. And a lot of that is me, I know. Protecting him, doing everything so he could concentrate on recovery. So I am hoping he knows now, with this commitment that I am on-board for the duration, supportive and trusting of him and that may help him start and consider his own role. Debbie

The fact that life goes on just as it always did is so very comforting, once the necessary adjustments are made. I'm surprised your local papers aren't planning on covering this happy ending story, with the stroke and then picking up where you left off three years ago. It would be a great article.
