A TRAGIC FIRE

THIS AFTERNOON MY WIFE AND I DECIDED TO GO TO THE OUTLET MALL TO GET A GOING AWAY GIFT FOR A FELLOW WATER THERAPY MEMBER WHO IS MOVING AWAY THIS MONTH.

ON THE WAY HOME, WE NOTICED THICK BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM THE AREA WE LIVE IN. WE PASSED OUR STILL STANDING HOUSE, AND DECIDED TO HEAD TOWARD THE LAKE TO SEE IF WE COULD FIND WHERE THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM. THE AREA IS HEAVILY WOODED, AND AS WE APPROACHED AN INTERSECTION, WE SAW AN INCREDIBLE SIGHT. TO THE LEFT WAS A LOG CABIN, COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD NOT YET ARRIVED, BUT THERE WAS NO SAVING THIS PLACE.

THE OWNER HAD BEEN AT BEACH, AND NEARBY RESIDENTS HEARD AN EXPLOSION BEFORE THE FIRE BEGAN. BESIDES LOSING EVERYTHING, HER PET DOG WAS IN THE HOUSE DURING ALL THIS AND WAS A GONNER. WHAT A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS. HAD THERE NOT BEEN A HEAVY RAIN LAST NIGHT, THERE WAS A GOOD CHANCE THE WOODS COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE ALSO.

IT LOOKED SO SURREAL. I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT, AND DON'T CARE IF I NEVER DO AGAIN. SO MUCH FOR A PEACEFUL SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

Marty,

Seeing someone's house burning outta control is such a sad sight. I have only seen it once, and yelled for my daughter to close her eyes.

I'm out of words..

I'm moving to a heavily wooded area and on the corner of the main thorofare is a small buildboard that states where the fire alert is. So far when I have been there, it has said low. Guess they have more rain than we do her in civilization.

Wonder what caused the fire (explosion) Maybe utilities used propane or something that could have overheated? That's sickening to think about and gives me the shudders.

So sorry to hear about the fire..

There was a fire in an old building when I was 5 yrs old...it was exploding and shooting white hot cinders into the air. My mom went outside and hosed our house roof and the roof of the elderly lady who lived next door. I still remember how scared I was...Luckily it didn't spread to any of the houses..Old paint cans and turpentine were in there.

I understand..I never want to see or experience anything like that again.

MARTY,

IT'S SAD THEY LOST THEIR HOME, BUT IT BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES ABOUT THE DOG. I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING MUCH MORE SAD THAN THE LOSS OF A BELOVED FAMILY PET. I HOPE HE DIDN'T SUFFER.

Marty:

What a sad thing it is to see when a families house burns to the ground. And yet to lose your pet. They must be devasated.

To many times I have seen this happen to families, being a volunteer with our local fire department. The only thing I am thankful for in this situation is that I am there for the family and our firemen.
