Finished the Recipe Book

smile.gif I have been typing recipes into my computer for my husband family.

The Family Reunion is coming up. My mother-in-law wanted to do a Family Recipe Book for the Reunion (one of the fund raisers). My husband volunteered me to type the recipes.... I was getting a bit discouraged. I didn't get that many recipes from family members. Well I added quite a few of my own and my one brother and sister in law sent six. My mother in law had quite a few.. so I got them all typed and printed. John and I went to his shop ( he owns a "copy shop") so we printed copies and I have a CD from the family calendar with photos. I went through the CD and printed photos and John cut and pasted pictures with the recipes. I found some more photos at home so he is working on the final ones today and will get the copies done and bound. I was supposed to go in this am and help finish... I was so tired last night. He called me this am and said what are you doing? I said I'm sleeping. John said do you know what times it is? I said No, I'm sleeping it was 11:30 (LOL) so he said don't worry, don't come in, I'll finish it up..

I am glad he has helped and participated in this..

We weren't sure we were going to get it done and Mom had said, oh, don't do it..but I had all the recipes typed. When he talked to her last night she sounded SOOO happy that we did it. We will get them shipped tomorrow Fed-Ex so they will get there by Thursday..The reunion is Saturday. (down to the wire..lol)

I really wish we could go I had such a good time last year, but for several reasons -- one financial we can't go this year...

I have made the cookbook so that we can add recipes to it. We are thinking that once some of the cousins see the book they will want to add some recipes to it also

We put two Photo's of John's Grandmother on the front. I made the cover and I am not great at Graphics, but John was so tickled with the way I made the cover on the computer, he watched me and said WOW..I am impressed at what you did.

It was fun once he got involved helping me and it turned into a fun family project .

I am going to continue typing my mom's and my recipes in and make a cookbook for my family also!! This I can do..at my pace..lol

You are very brave Bonnie. There are so many different tastes in food these days. What some people think is a great recipe, others think is terrible. Maybe families are more forgiving?

I remember when my niece was married there was a shower where everyone was told to bring a recipe on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. They were then placed in a notebook and given to the bride to be. The collection was passed around the room. You could tell when everyone got to the recipe based on cool whip. Fortunately the person who sent the recipe was not present.

Hope I didn't offend you with the cool whip story. biggrin.gif

Good luck with you family reunion.

Good job Bonnie!

My mom has been trying to do one too, but she has so much going on in the cooking arena, I secretly doubt it will ever be finished. I must say on her defense, we come from a long line of excellent down-home cooks, so I am sure there are many recipes to get in order. HEY!! Maybe we could all send you a recipe and you could create a STROKEBOARD cookbook??? Procedes could go to the site! (Just teasing- wanted to see your reaction, lol).

Take care, Dawg!

Kristen, lol.. but I am getting better at getting these recipes in.

I have tons of my own & my mother's..she was an excellent cook.

The problem with some of my recipes..they are in my head and not really measured.. I just "do"it..dump and cook or whatever..lol so when someone actually wants certain recipes I have to think about what I do..lol

The people who e mailed the recipes were gre giggle.gif at, because I could cut, copy and paste. it was the hand written ones that took so long to type in.

I AM going to hook up the %**& scanner and learn how to use it..LOL

Really great idea Bonnie, I had some of the better recipes of an Aunt that herdaughter shared but ubfortunately, they were where I knew they were but the family moved me and they are probably gone.

One gal from Chihuahua Rescue, did a recipe book as a fund raiser. Everyone sent recpes and photos of their chis and a beautiful book was issued. Went like hotcakes. This book, I have.

A niece of mine had made a book up of each side of her family. It had pictures and all and was wonderful, She did it so she could pass it on to her children. That's another nice idea.

These are great ideas but sure are a lot of work.
