Biketober Fest anyone?
It's that time when the bikers take over Daytona Beach, Florida and the "natives" who don't ride stay home. They sure are interesting. Today passed a whole bunch each with a bikerchick on the back of cycle - AND none of them were wearing helmets. They managed to get the law repealed. I can understand liking the wind go through your hair but I also know that the neurosurgeons are kept busy if their brains aren't left on the cement. The hospital in Daytona has a special section during spring bike week when there are thousands more, and there are always some stories in the paper that are really sad. Well, they all are but especially when a couple is to be married and one's life is ended.
There is a new Harley dealership which is now partially opened and I bet they will be there. The restaurants, "head type shops" leather places, tatoo parlors and of course the bars get very good business during this time. And actually, they don't bother a soul. They turn night into day and probably have great memories. It is really something to see the first time. They drive in groups, sometimes numbering in the teens. I don't know how they hook up like that but I guess they tell one another where the "good" places are. Come next Monday morning and the "vroom" noise will be gone.
