Hijacking Asha's blog-winter heating bill

I am taking part of ASha's blog, and talking about it too. I have in the past kept our house toasty oven warm*78.

The estimated gas prices have me freaked out, and I think I will turn the heat set at *70 and leave it there, just put on more clothes if needed. We live in a small house, so it used to be affordable to keep it the temperaturewhat we wanted. Our electricity for the summer has been higher, and now the winter hype of natural gas has me biting my nails.(I'm thinking about getting an electric blanket this winter. Are they dangerous?)

Once my stroke side gets cold, it gets ice cold and stays that way.

Nothing to blog..

Electric blankets are safe so long as you keep them in a dry condition. Try not to use an extension cord, if so, not over 4 ft long with proper ground plug.

Amy,

We've got our heat set at 69 and I'm determined not to turn it up all winter. Last year we had it at 71. We've got a new rule of "put a sweater on" if you're cold. If that doesn't work we have a couple of electric space heaters that we can use to just heat the area we're actually sitting in.

Our Arizona papers are full of predictions about gas prices; we get ours from Texas & pipes have been known to freeze & we get none til repairs are made. We will make good use of our fireplace this year.

Actually, it is not uncommon for homes here to be heated with a woodstove. We had a house like that & its amazing how toasty warm your home can be. Hard to believe ....no thermostat....no gas bill..I wouldn't mind a woodstove in my current home as a back-up. But our winters are short & snowfall rarely exceeds 2ft.

78 degree wow u r crazy, yesterday we went and got electric heaters for our bedroom, but even with that hubby won't let me turn on, he says we will turn on when temp are really low, and in 50s isn't low enough for him, oh how I love and hate that guy lol_2.gif if you are planning to keep 78 degree in your house can I come and stay over at your place, I don't mind winter as long as its I m warm enough.
