The shortest day of the year

Hi all

Just sitting here thinking..... Neighbours are going to call the fire department. LOL

The clock just turned over to a new day and also a new month. December 1st.

The last month in 2005. Is it me or has the year slipped away at a faster pace then I would've believed.

I guess the trip to the West coast in Feb/March put a bit of a hole in the winter.

The warm fall with no snow has (I am sure) made a difference as well.

So now there are only twenty days to go till the shortest day of the year. (basically three weeks) Then the days will start getting longer again.

I guess before the stroke I always found this the hardest time of year with the short days. (go to work in the dark and come home in the dark)

Since my stroke it doesn't seem to be as bad. Maybe because I am not working now. LOL

Last night and tonight were both beautiful. Relatively warm and bright. Good enough that I took an evening walk (after dark) on both occasions.

Anyway just something to think about I guess.

I have to go put some lotion on my skin. The dry air is making it itch I guess and if i scratch I'll be bleeding in no time.

Do you ever think about the lack of sunlight at this time of year and if it has any effect on our bodies?

Blog later,

Sunlight can definitely have an effect on one's outlook. It is interesting that the highest suicide rates in the world are in locations that get little light in the winter (northern Europe). And suicide rates go up all over the world at this time of year. Some people say it is because of the holidays. I suspect that is true. But, I imagine lack of sun also plays its part.

One of the good things living where I do (northern Illinois) is that even when it gets very cold we have sunny days. It makes a difference. I used to live in Belgium where you didn't see the sun for days. Much more difficult on the psyche

I also live in a house with lots of windows. That really helps when it gets too cold to go outside. They also make special lamps which provide sunlight. If we didn't have all the windows, I would have one.

Another problem is dryness. Causes a lot of skin problems. Keep lotioning. I also use olive oil based soap, which is a lot easier on the skin.

Take care and enjoy the winter!

Hi Lin

Good points. Some how what you are saying seems so logical. Thanks.

Yes, where I am living now is bright with lots of windows too. that could make a difference all right.

Dry skin can be a major problem because it can itch. If I then scratch it takes nothing at all to get bleeding due to being on blood thinners.

So I do try to use a good lotion "Aveeno moisturizing lotion".

I will try to enjoy the winter. So far no snow and temps that have been into the 60's F. But I kinda do miss the X country skiing eh. LOL
