Isn't it pathetic to to read about my job problems all the time? Well I am 50 years old and do not have much education (doesn't mean I'm not smart) but did not have the opportunity to do so. When I was younger I never realized how important it was. IT's a little late now but I am taking french and math at the moment.

My union rep. has asked me to think about QUITTING my job. He said he could negotiate that they would pay me my salary until August 2006 if I AGREED to give my resignation then.

I have conflicting thoughts about this but I want to make a sound decision so I will try not to make one in haste. This could be just some manipulation tactic. The union rep. will not be representing me anymore come January because the workers have voted in a new union. So I'm wondering if I should wait til then. This union is known to be more pro=worker side... I don't want the reason I throw in the towel is because I'm sick of this, I want to be clearheaded in my decision.

These are the times I feel most depressed when I feel I'm in the DARK huh.gif

Hi

Interesting that they are suggesting that you should resign. Do you have a financial advisor? How long have you been employed at the work that you were doing when you stroked? Is there a pension plan of any kind? Will they give a seperation package?

I know...More questions eh...LOL

Your bank or Credit Union may provide the financial planning service at little or no cost. That person should be able to assist you in making a sound financial dicision about terminating your employment.

Retirement is not the end of us as contribituters to the community. It is a new beginning and like stroke we need to accept and adjust.

At 50 you have many more productive years. Maybe the door of opportunity could be opening for you so do be realistic in your evaluating the options available.

There is nothing wrong with learning new things. Lifelong learning is more common now then ever.

Be sure to think about what would make you happy as you do consider your oppotunities.

May your doors of opportunity always open onto fertile gardens of rich rewards.

Hi,

Wonderful reply Gary!

We are both in same kind of situation, but I am still in limbo and yours

is coming to an end and perhaps a new beginning.

I would not give up hope of being offered another position, especially after all the years you spent working for that organization,as I have done with mine.

The union should ask for a severence package if there is no alternative to work.

I was offered a years pay,but have not accepted that as I know I have many more years to be employed.

Think positive! Let me know your final decision.

Take care

Hi.

Just thinking oF something else!

When the institution I am employed with restructured 5 yrs ago with pensions

there was bridging offered. Most that were 50+ took the bridging and ened up with early retirement. I didn't have the option because I wasn't 50,but close to it.

Another thing you could enquire about from human resources where y work.

They usually are more aware than the unon about this and/or direct y in right direction.

Take Care

P.S. looking forward to chatting with y soon!

Since the company want you to "retire", which saves them $$$, is it possible for you to agree IF they pay you until you find other employment OR allow time off to find other employment (at full pay, of course).

Gary expressed it very well, education never stops!

What plans do you have for learning French? Is it work related?

This sounds like a money saving measure for the company; so why should you suffer?

Wishing you the best of luck, remember...a door closes & another one opens!
