Kitchen knives for Christmas

About 15 years ago, or more, I remember Rob bought me kitchen knives for Christmas. I was furious. How could he be so insensitive to give me kitchen tools for Christmas? And of course he has never since repeated that mistake.....

Today I was Christmas shopping and it just so happened, I was looking at one-handed kitchen items for him. I bought a chopper and a new can opener that I thought he could use one-handed. I was smiling the whole way home, with the thought of wrapping these up and putting them under the tree smile.gif I just couldn't do it - but I did let him know that the thought was there when I showed him my purchases.

Oh the memories!

I AM SO GLAD YOU WROTE THAT BIT ABOUT KNIVES..MY HUSBAND IS ALWAYS SQUACKING (sp?) ABOUT DULL KNIVES, SO I ORDERED SOME THAT ARE NEVER TO DULL, YOU CAN CUT A CEMENT BLOCK & THEY DON'T DULL! BUT NOW I HESITATE TO PUT THEM UBDER THE TREE......MAYBE A BOX OF STEAKS TO GO WITH IT?

Don has given me a lot of 'creative' gifts over the years too. It's a guy thing. We pretty much quit exchanging Christmas and birthday presents about 15-20 years ago and adapted a new transition. We give gifts all year long, whenever we see something the other would like. It kinda of grew out of me buying things for my parents to put away until Christmas and Don would say, "Give it to them now. They aren't getting any younger."

Jean, i read your blog and within 15 minutes proposed the same gift-giving 'rules' that you and Don have to John. he enthusiastically agreed. now, i don't have to wait for my next birthday to get those gold metallic leather Converse hi-tops that i admired-i can get them now! or do i want the leopard suede ones that would go with the jacket that i received for this birthday? i just can't decide....

i agree with the sentiments of this blog, although nobody that knows me would EVER dream of getting me cooking utensils. i did get John a breadmaker (i was inspired by Sister Pam), so when he starts going to the day treatment cognitive rehab program next month he can start baking bread as a cognitive exercise.

Have to agree- practical gifts just don't cut it. This is the time for the ridiculous. Now where is the Neiman Marcus catalogue when you need it? Wonder what's this years special gift besides the several thousand dollar jeans?
