New Year - Renewed Hope

Tomorrow is New Year's Eve. We have a Southern-German meal for New Year's Day. We have always eaten Black Eyed Peas (of course, with cornbread, onion and sweet iced tea) but Hans being German - he had always eaten Sauerkraut with Sausage for New Years Day. Sooo We have black eyed peas, sauerkraut, cornbread and tea now. I have everything ready to cook. Fortunately before Hans stroke I watched him cook the sauerkraut so now I can do it pretty much like he did. He drained it (out of the can or jar) and then rinsed it good. Then he added a little water thickened with corn starch and a little sugar and some sesame seeds. When it was good and done, he added some crumbled, cooked bacon. Boy is it good. I don't know how this will do with his colostomy but we will see. I had to get up twice one night to "burp" his pouch after he had eaten some sweet potatoes. I can do that again. I guess I need to order him some of the pouches that have a valve thing that allows the gases escape but no odor. Wonder how that works??

We haven't had any good bites on our house as yet. I am sure God is just giving me more time to get the closets cleaned out and lots of junk disposed of. Today I sent several "ruler holders" to my quilting group - I don't get to go anymore but know they can use them for door prizes. He made several of these and sold some at the quilt shop in the next little town. He was so handy with wood. These were made out of cedar and smelled so good. I have the ones he made me on my work table in the quilt room. He also made me some ladders to display my antique quilts on. They are wonderful.

I have so many projects started. My goal this year is to get some of them completed. I have two quilts to make for Mrs. Chaney and two baby afghans and two baby quilts to get done. I am so far behind that God will have to leave me here for a while now to get caught up.

Supper time is here and I don't have a clue what to fix. Hans has been eating Stolen and Marzipan that his sister-in-law brought him. Maybe he will be happy with a pimento cheese sandwich. I think we had that wast night. Maybe he would go for a bowl of cereal. I feel so bad when I don't cook for him but I am tired and don't want to cook tonight.

Joy I am sure you quilts will give others much joy. I do afghan rugs too for new Mums, and for the elderly, that is what I do in winter. I sometimes see a rug I have made when I visit a nearby nursing home and know they give comfort and a feeling of homeliness to a stark and impersonal room.

Keep on giving pleseure to others. Best wishes to you and Hans, and hopes for a healthy 2006.

Sue.
