To calculate how many calories you need to maintain your weight follow these steps.

2) Multiply age by 7.31
3) Subtract line 2 from line 1
4) Multiply weight (lb) by 4.91
5)Multiply height (in) by 16.78
6) Add lines 4 and 5
7) Enter daily physical activity:
Sedentary: 1
Less than 30 mins a day: 1.14
30-60 mins a day: 1.27
More tha 60 mins a day: 1.45
8) Multiply line 6 and 7

That number gives you your calorific maintenance level.
My number comes to 1259. So if I want to lose weight I will have to eat less than that. 1200 calories is not very much. No wonder I am struggling to lose weight. No wonder Jean is losing weight by only having 800 calories.
It may be slightly different for men, as I got this out of a book about the menopause. I committed a cardinal sin in my line of work.... I didnt take the reference. Tho I would probably be able to find it again. I also remember the dietitian I saw when I was in rehab using something like this to guide me.
I am feeling unsettled today. The woman at work who had bad news last week wasnt in today. No one would tell me why. Maybe I will find out tomorrow. Ha this is rich coming from the me who said I was always positive...she was probably feeling under the weather.
May is always a funny month for me as it is my stroke anniversary.
I will leave it there for tonight as I am not thinking properly. I will go for a walk later. It is a lovely evening, alll the trees are looking bright fresh and green. The birds are feeding there nestlings and some of my seeds are coming up. I am about to go and watch the Chelsea Flower Show. See it on the web.
