Rehab again and more

I've had nothing to report in ages then several things, strange how life goes like that. Getting rather old or must be, was excited I got a new wheelchair recently! It's to replace the hard to push transit freebie on loan, with large wheels and a lowerable seat. I can push with my left hand and its low enough my left leg can help; my first attempts in rehab I had only my left hand pushing so went in circles! Must have looked funny but meant freedom as eventually you can get most things. Unfortunately my right side is still too restricted to help.

Had a lovely meal at my mums yesterday. Used my new wheelchair but on mum's carpet I couldn't push with my foot. Hope I can otherwise. May help build up those muscles if I can.

Went to rehab today for assessment. I stayed at a different rehab last year but they were rubbish and some weeks I had just an hour's physio all week. What I did never stretched me! Today seemed entirely different. Upshot is I get botox injections then a week later I am admitted for several weeks. I stay during the week for intensive physio but get to go home for the weekend. I was to have a reasonable aim and it was agreed that independent transfer is just that. That enables independence except maybe washing and dressing, what I ask right now. I must admit after my experience of rehab I have rather mixed feelings but feel I must try this out. Imagine being independent by Christmas! As my husband pointed out, once I can stand independently I achieve a lifelong ambition; visiting Egypt!

Wow! Egypt, what an incentive for working hard.

You and your husband will both love it when can do independent transfers. It makes a world of difference. And that new chair will help, too, now that you can use your left foot. Carpeting makes a lot of difference in your ability to move around. Some carpeting are impossible for Don to move on. It's so annoying to go places that have that kind.

Contragulations on your progress.

Progress at last! I like the sound of your new chair, Ray had a newer one last year and it is lighter for me to load which I really appreciate.

I like the sound of the live in rehab too and if you can get to standing and then...maybe walking? Then the world is your oyster.

Congratulations on your ongoing success.

Sue.
