Some little improvements worth mentioning

I just thought I would mention some little improvements Mike has made recently since nothing much else is going on in our lives.

Mike is now able to roll over from his back to his stomach while lying in bed. He wasn't able to do this until about two weeks ago.

His reading is getting better and better he is finally starting to scan from left to right again and looking for the beginning of the sentence. He has been able to read words since very early on but could not read sentences.

He can pick up a regular glass now and tilt it to drink from it and (this is the tricky part) put it back down next to his plate instead of on it.

And the peraphin wax treatment for his hand must be working pretty good because he can now wrap his fingers of his left hand around a bottle or can and they will grip it. Until we started the peraphin treatment and stretching his two middle fingers on his left hand would stay straight.

I remember Ray picking up a cup for the first time too, instead of a tumbler with a drinking straw in it like an "old person". It is so good when life starts to "normalise" and you get that hope back in your heart.

Get Mike all the help you can, it sounds like he is really ready to do as much as he is able now. The therapists will rest him if he needs that. And imagine a tick list here: Mike can do this, this, this and this. I can just see the big smiles on both of you as he does better and better.

my hubby had a bad stroke in june of 2002, was in rehab for a month and came home and had a bit more therapy here.. The rest we did on our own and it was not easy to try and teach an unwilling, uncooperative adult to learn the basic skills in life... He progressed faster at first and then slowed down and got very discouraged but we kept on a truckin and now he is able to do some of the basic things in building that he did prior to his stroke ..He was a carpenter by trade and contracted a lot of big jobs of which he was owner operator of his own company and responsible for up to twenty twenty five men at a time.. This was a big blow to his self esteme as well.. communication is still a problem with us but I am learning to decode the messages as he still sometimes gets things reversed..I am so proud of him but he still does not give himself enough praise cause it is not what he used to do... hang in there and I know all will turn out well in time cause the will is there to get better and fight for what you want....hugs Deenie
