Sunshine

Well we had sunshine today, it was soooooo nice. It is still a bit chilly, but most of the snow and ice is gone. So now we will have mud.. lol....

It is supposed to be in the high 30's and low 40's most of the week.

I guess I "whined" :whine: enough yesterday ....... The sun made me feel GOOD.

we had eagles in our yard today. John got some pictures of the young one. The older ones were in the back but flew off if he walked that way. We found out from another neighbor that there is a dead horse in a field behind us. and thats why the eagles are here............ (yuck) well okay they gotta eat too .. and maybe they will leave the one chicken I have left alone. Lucy our goose is 9 yrs old.. she is a survivor and has hiding spots.. we have most of the porch closed in, but left a place she can get in and under the porch for shelter. She likes to hang out with our Australian shephard mix.. they are pals. Sometimes Lucy gets up on the porch and she knocks on the sliding glass door with her beak.. and makes the dogs bark..

I am looking forward to Spring .... I hope to get out more and work on some plantings and a small garden. We put in a "garden" window, so maybe middle of next month I can plant some seeds and get some things started.. :farmer:

Bonnie,

Try walmart for your seeds and bulbs you may be planting soon. Their shipments just arrived last week, atleast here in Texas, and you can return any that dies, just keep your receipt.

I think they got in stock just about every vegetable and flowers you would want to plant or grow in your garden. The trees, fruit and nut, just arrived Friday morning but with the icy cold weather we are having here, I don't know if they will survive. Most of that stuff says plant after the frost on the packages.

Since my grass died in the back yard, I may set up a little plot and try my hand at growing something.

You must be high up and out a ways from the city limits to have the eagles pay you a visit on your property?

Hey Bonnie--

I didn't realize eagles were scavengers. We had some on our property where I worked. The adults were named George and Martha because they were the first Bald Eagles we had. Then George and Martha had a little fun one time and we had a baby Bald Eagle, who grew up and made his home about (5) miles down the road from George and Martha.

I drove a miata and I loved driving between the conference centers w/ my top down (in spring and summer). A couple of times, one of the Bald Eagles would swoop down on my car as I drove w/ my top down. I just loved it!

The other thing was, we had Angus cattle and periodically, the "cowboys" would have a cattle drive and move the Angus from one field to another. When you have this mass of black coming at you, the only thing you can do is stop and wait for this river of black to pass you.

In my small miata, which was lower than the Angus, I would wait as the this black river of Angus would stream past my car on both sides. They looked down at me and I was sure one day one of them would lean over and give me a Big Sloppy Angus Kiss!

One more thing: I want to congratulate you on your gardening skills. I love a garden and always have an image of a beautiful garden in my head. Unfortunately, the only things I can raise are kids, weeds and a little bit h-e-l-l. Take Care. LK

HI, Lucy, yes eagles are scavengers. it was on the news today here that eagles are at their highest population in years. They banned DDT I think. It was making the shells of the eggs thin and the mortality rate of the eaglets very low.

We live in an area not far from some creeks and rivers with Salmon runs, so it is pretty popular hunting area for the eagles. They have been known to go after small dogs, weak lambs, livestock. There are a couple nests down the road we can see high up in the trees.

We have seen a few flying around and one other time one landed in a tree.

Fred we are 17 miles to town.. either north or south. The town I live in doesn't even have it's own zip code (lol) I am not sure of the elevation, but not real high. there are some small mountains behind us, and we drive thru a small pass to go to the town north of us.
