Officially Crazy!

Well, it is official. I am completely insane, as are the other 5 teachers who are taking 65 sophomores and seniors to Washington, D.C. tomorrow morning. We will leave here at 5:30 am and will be gone until Saturday night. We will have a very good time I am sure, however, I feel a major case of exhaustion coming on. I often wonder what wonder what we are thinking every time we take this trip, then I remember that we have a very large proportion of our students who have never traveled outside the state. This is a major deal for many of them, so it is a very important trip.

Wish me luck!

Have fun... This reminds me .. when my daughter was in girlscouts. we took 13 8 to 10 year olds on a Ferry to Victoria, BC

Of course I was much younger... and pre stroke.

Have a great time... and hope you can get some extra sleep/rest after the trip.

Oh what a great time you will have! I see it all in my mind. Yes! You will definitely need at least (4) days of rest when you return!

A friend of mine and I started a day kids camp in the town where I lived. We took the kids everywhere---on bikes. Our camp admitted 6 year olds on up to 13 year olds. The 13 year olds were generally our junior counselors. We would ride (25) miles w/ the kids sometimes to get somewhere.

It was non-profit but the kids had to contribute something towards their tuition. It could be 25 cents a week. I started it because we were surrounded by water and lots of the kids didn't know how to swim. I wanted to change that. Jenny wanted to start the camp because she is an educator and worked at South Port in NY. It was fun. The first year, at the end of the last week, the kids mutinied. Jenny and I thought, what have we created? We were sure the kids would not return the next year. We thought we were a complete failure.

Next year, I went in to do the registering. When I arrived, I saw a line of parents from the front door of the Community Center, going out to the street. I made remarks about are you all here to tryout for the play? No one was here to let you all in? I'll unlock and you all can come in and wait for the director.

I unlocked the door and went into the room where I was holding registration, knowing hardly anyone would show up. Funny, the line of people waiting outside followed me into the registration room! They were all there to register their kids for the camp AND the grandparents were there to register their GRANDKIDS for the program!

I gotta say, the parents always told us that when the kids returned from the day, they'd go right to bed and take a nap. Me? Usually, I had to work the evening shift at the front desk. I don't know how I did it. But then again, I was younger and I was Buff! Take Care. LK
