BBQ from Hell- what was I thinking?

Well we went out last night and got a new BBQ, as ours was literally falling apart. This morning I went down to the car and brought the bbq upstairs. Around 9 AM I decided that I'd put it together, I started to unpack the parts ( there where so many).I sat for almost 10 minutes looking at all the parts wondering if I'd lost my mind, but hey I had all day :)

I opened the instructions only to find that there were two revision sheets, and three parts that I had no idea what they were because they wern't in the instructions.. First the body, no problems yet but I'd only been at it for 45 min. Then the wheels, no problems as yet but I'd only been at it for 90 min.

Then I started putting the front together, nuts and bolts in the oddest places, some I could just bairly reach, I got a cramp in my affected arm and couldn't get it out of a paticularly tight spot (what was I thinking), but I eventually got the arm out after the cramp stopped.

By the time I got it togehter it was 12:55 PM, it took me almost four hours to build the BBQ ( with two wrenches, and a pair of pliers). Last picture is the finished product, all parts accounted for, and no mistakes. I wasn't going to let it beat me, but next time I'll leave it for my son ;)

I've already got chicken breasts defrosted, I'm going to officially break it in tonight :)

WOOOOHOOO GREAT JOB.. I do crafts.. I crochet.. after a few items... being torn back out I now stick to easy patterns with few changes. I have learned to make copies of the pattern so I can write on it or cross off stitches.. and safety pins and sticky note pads close by...

After reading your blog, you've convinced me that I need to have the store assemble a grill for me if I get a new one this weekend. :happydance: I'm having a 60th birthday bash for Gary next weekend and I had to chose between trying to clean up an old, smaller grill or getting a new one. I definitely have decided a new one is a better idea but now will be sure to have it assembled first. :happydance:

Hi,

Great, a new grill is so inexpensive these days, and I'm sure Gary would enjoy it a great deal.

As for the store, yes get them to put it together for you, it's along way to CO for me to come just to put a BBQ together ;)

A nice looking BBQ.My BBQ chicken is cooking as I write- in the oven. LOL! My last bbq was a portable one and used gas. I was never comfortable having gas too close to the house and kept it on the back patio. I wouldn't do that again. Perhaps if I had an outdoor shed. Anyway, I am sure you enjoyed the end results- the chicken. Hope the recipe was worthy of such a fine appliance put together with your own special touch. To Sarah: I'm with you. LOL! Phyllis

Stu,

I can see from the picture, green, it didn't come from Walmart plus when you request they put it together for you. Some return to pick them up in a vehicle too small then they want one in the box.
