Locksmithing adventures

For Kimberly who kept asking to repeat the same story over and over in chat, and anyone else who's interested in some things locksmiths have to put up with, here are some of my locksmithing stories.

1) A woman had bought a suitcase padlock and had inserted it into the holes of her pierced genitals, and then lost the key. She came to me wanting me to unlock it. Thankfully it was a common brand that I had extra keys for, so I just sold her a key for it.

2) I was called to unlock a house, because the owner had locked herself in the house (yes, in). She had a double deadbolt and had locked it from the inside and then had lost the key somewhere in her house.

3) Something that is common, but irritating. I get a call to unlock a car, and when I ask for the location of the car I'm told "In my garage.".....ok, so where exactly is your garage?

4) I've been cussed out a couple times because customers aren't sastified with our prices. Believe it or not, they feel they are paying too little for our services. I usually passify them by saying I'll accept a tip for the amount they think they should be paying.

5) My second week of working with my dad, I had the police called and they pulled me over. A friend of my dad's who had never met me saw me driving the locksmith van (both our vans are identically marked), and thought someone had stolen his van.

6) I've been pulled over by the police on several occasions because they needed some keys copied.

7) I've had people refuse to pay our price for making keys for their cars. They would take the car to the local dealership and pay the higher price for the new keys. The kicker is that the dealerships are a chain owned by the same person, and they use us to make keys for cars.

8) I had a lady one time pull up next to me while I was rekeying a daycare and started cussing me out because the key I had made her would not work in her desk. I didn't recognize her, and thought it might have been my dad until she said that she had stopped by our store and no-one was there to complain too. We are a 100% mobile company with no store front. The lady was fussing at me for the work another locksmith company had done.

9) I had made keys for a lady's car once, and when she reached into her purse to pull out the money, she also pulled out her old keys.

10) This one happened to my dad: He was called to unlock another company's locksmith van.

11) This one is kind of embaricing, but funny. I was hired to rekey an apartment, and was told no one was home. I opened the door and saw this guy standing there in his underwear. I turned 3 shades of red and apologized, until I realized it was a life size cutout of The Rock.

12) We have one lady in town who locks herself out of her car at least 3 times a week. After she locked herself out of her car 5 times in one day, we started carrying a copy of her car key with us at her request.

That's all the funnier stories I can think of for now. If I remember anymore, or have anymore happen I'll post them.

Michael,

I got a big laugh out of 9, 10 and 11. Thanks for sharing these stories. Some day I might make my list of funny things that happen in the wedding floral business.

Michael:

This ISN'T a locksmith story, but it's funny none the less.

I was at the shopping mall, and I noticed that a car was parked in a handicap spot and IT was 'running'. And the doors WERE LOCKED. I notified the security people, as one just happened to be driving by, that this car's engine was running. As he was 'copying down' the vehicle information, this elderly couple came walking out and the man yelled "What are you doing at my car?" Security asked the guy where he keys were. The man spent about 10 - 15 minutes 'searching' for his keys, couldn't find them. Then he started walking back towards the store, thinking that he might have 'lost' them. Security asked if this was his car, and if so, the keys were left in the ignition, the car was 'running' and the doors were locked. At this, the elderly lady SLUGGED her husband and yelled "DAMN it George, this is the FOURTH time this week."

The security guard and I just exchanged glances and we went on our merry way, as we 'heard' them having a 'nice, quiet (YEA RIGHT) discussion.
