Teddy getting fat

:yikes: It appears, Theodore has had a couple of meals too many, or in Spanish, Teddy es un perro gordo. This is not going to be easy. He sure can look pitiful when he wants something. He will sit down in front of me and give me 'that look'. He can make you feel like a monster. But it is for his own good.

Otherwise, he is doing terrific as usual, although he can sure act stuck up to other people. He has learned to recognize Aunt Kim's car and when he sees it on his morning walk when he finishes he goes straight to the med room for his morning treat and let the people fuss over him.

I started getting my prescriptions from the VA I got my first order through the mail this week. I asked the Nurse Practitioner to re prescribe pain pills just in case I need one. It has been heep many moons (Native American lingo there) since I had any pain pills or sleeping pills. The NP gave me a basic check up. She said I was very healthy, except for my smoking of course :nuhuh: She told me about the VA quit smoking classes. She said there is now a pill that is very helpful, but I may not be able to get it because of my stroke. I think I mentioned I got Teddy's arthritis medicine. He got a free chew bone with it, but it was huge(almost as big as he is), so I gave it to Anne for her dog Sam, I hope he likes it.

I have another appointment tomorrow at the VA. I am going to get a new Dr, her name is Dr Knutson. Whenever I hear a Nordic name I think of Monty Python and the opening about the moose :roflmao: from 'The Holy Grail'. Don't get me started on Monty Python. They just crack me up so much. A very long time ago I went to a Tech Training School out at what used to be Lowry AFB. Every Friday night several of my friends would get together and watch Monty Python vcr's, way back in the day before dvd's.

We have our dogs on "diet's" we have been feeding them about 1/2 or a little less in the morning, I keep some "kibbles" out for "treats" and the rest of it for their evening meal. You can cook some baby carrots in a little chicken broth.. or if you can get him to eat green beans.. canned or frozen.. mine r starting to like them (LOL)The packaged soft dog treats.. are VERY high in calories.. like us eating candy..Our Aussie is on thyroid medicine, and we have been buying "lite food" we get their food from pet's mart or the feed store. One is allergic to wheat, corn and soy. So we buy a higher quality food. There are size portions on the bag, to lose weight you need to cut this portion down a little, and dividing it into a couple meals.. and some for treats during the day has really helped. Mindy has lost over 8 lbs.

I changed my cat's food to food made for older (bag says 7+ years). It has fewer calories than regular adult food. And is also formulated for older cats. (Plus indoor which I know does not apply to Teddy).

I would guess that they also have food for dogs which is formulated for older animals. If I remember correctly, Teddy is older. Sorry, if I am wrong. Check it out. Probably also has few calories.

Have also successfully used lite (diet) pet food.

doug, my dog too has a weight problem, i think the smaller breeds. are prone to be overweight due to the parents, who are always giving them a bite cause they are so cute and are our babies. treats do have alot of calories in them. we have started feeding our dog boiled chicken breast with veggies mixed in. he loves it and the vet suggested this diet. he has to take meds twice a day for his asthma, so he is fed alittle am and pm. hardly any treats anymore and he is loosing weight too. we used to live in aurora while my hubby was stationed at lowry in the 70's. i love colorado.

we too are huge fans of monty python. its good you got your meds from the va, that helps save you some money. good luck with teddy's diet, it is for his own good but their sad eyes can get you everytime, try not to look is what i do
