bstockman Posted January 22, 2009 Hi Wes, I was released by PT and Dr to drive. I did not feel comfortable for awhile. I started driving about 6 months post stroke. I started slowly and drove a mile or 2 then a little more.. wanted to try my response and reactions. I do not drive at night or dark very often. I am almost 6 yrs post stroke. I drove to my daughter's about a 4 hr drive last October. I don't have to do busy city driving. We live in a rural area and it is about 15-17 miles to town, the freeway is only 2 lanes each way. I would ask the Dr. if you have not had seizures or blackouts, you should be fine. May survivors drive, with some adaptive devices.. spinner on the steering wheel for one handed drivers. they have footpedals for adaptve use if one leg is paralyzed. I just renewed my liscense, I have no restrictions.. Again the Dr and PT both told me I could drive. Bonnie Quote Link to comment
harriet rankin Posted January 22, 2009 Geno's back in the driver's seat-- in more ways than one. Personally, I enjoy your temper fits. Nothing's more rejuvenating than a good therapeutic tantrum every now and then. :roflmao: Quote Link to comment
HostAsha Posted January 23, 2009 hey wes: heavy weight lifted off my shoulders. so you were not offended that's just part of package. BTW you are braver than me though that is expected from skydiver like you. I don't like to drive in night. so I drive only local roads & prefer daytimes only. night I will drive if I have been to that place before. you will feel just little different after your full fledge driving, and those days r right in the corner Asha Quote Link to comment
naomih Posted January 23, 2009 Hey there, You are an awful lot like your Dad in numerous ways but you are also like your Mom in some ways too....I think! Those outbursts, [if that is what you choose to call them] just goes to show you are a normal person! A word from Mom, though, ...do check with your doctor before your next driving escapade. Just to be legally safe! I know I didn't have to say that..because you are a very responsible person. Know something???... Your Dad would have done the same thing you did! [ha] Come to think of it, he did go up in the plane with you once, BUT he never jumped! You really have come a long way in these five months! Love You Quote Link to comment
