Milestones

Yesterday afternoon we planted a tree in our yard. Let me back up and say we were serving many needs to plant this tree. Due to our neighbors complaints "Big Boy" was cut down his trunk was over 6 feet across from one side to the other. In other words his waist was bigger than mine!! He was a nice tree when we moved here 19 years ago But nothing like the day they cut his life short. We just celebrated our 40th anniversary and our great grand daugter was just born. So a new tree was in order. I could not stand to look out to where "Big Boy" had stood Bill wanted to go for it and have a tree planted that had substance Maple or Oak . But they are very slow growers. After much debate we settled on a tree I chose Id like to share with you the reason it was chosen. It is a Globe Willow. One . I love Willow Tree trees. I am so fond of the the Willow tree Angel figures that mark the milestones in our lives. Willow trees are fast growers I am Thinking that it should be a tree in our lifetime. Bill and I chose one with full branches that will quicky develop into the globe shape. So here is to our family Bill Karen Kevin Greg their wives Susan and Cindy our granchildren Stephanie Robert Kaylee and our greatgrand Madison. Always room for more and more branches. May our family always be strong and well rounded Yet flexible and able to bend gracefully when the storms come . Love Karen

Karen,

That's sorta sad and glad situation. The Big Boy had so many memories in your lives for many years. But now it can start again with the grand kids to mark their memories by planting the new one.

I did this garden thing and planted two trees with my grand daughter in April. Everything is growing now. That's when I decided I would retire and watch her the garden and trees grow up.

I know the feeling! We will always want our families to be strong well rounded an educated so they can be employed to care for their families like we have.

BTW, All my whippings from my mom came from switches from the willow tree.

How wonderful that you are doing this with your grandaughter. These times will have many memories to share for the rest of your lives. Switchings from the tree no doubt contributed to the man you are today. Wink Wink. We never had a willow tree but dad could have his belt off and around my rear end faster than fast. It was not child abuse then as it would be considered today. But my brother and I turned out kind loving compassionate and hard working and value education and walk with the Lord....so it must not of damaged us too bad HA HA. Karen

Karen,

I like your idea of planting a willow tree. We will celebrate our 40th in November and time is not on our side in a tree growing. I have a yard full of perennials and with all of the rain we have received in Ohio to date, they are growing beautifully.

Enjoy the willow tree for many more anniversaries!

What a beautiful concept behind the planting of your willow tree. My Dad as well did the belt thing - then it was corrective parenting LOL. I as well turned ok (maybe LOL) which is something that still confuses my Auntie (Dad's sister)

Beings he was a Pastor it was spare the rod and spoil the child. If you love a child you should train up a child in the way you would have them go, when they are old they shall not depart from it. I have to say our generation of children we not the smart mouths of today. Dad never abused us kids , never not once. They did love us enoug to discipline us. If you threaten to disipline a child today they are the first to tell you they will call social services on you . Sad IMHO
