Got me a cane

Now I can walk more. I didn't want to use a cane when I was in the hospital, but watching house on tv helps me to learn how to use one. My mom got it from an apartment, so I am going to use it. It isn't so hard. Not doing much, just playing games on the puter and doing wordsearch. My daughter is going out for her birthday, I talked to my son and got to talk to my grandson. He has grown so much. I got picture from our trip, they came out good. I always take lots of pics every where. I like to look back at them and see my wonderful family when I can't be with them.

Yes, a cane can help. Before I was able to walk unassisted, it helped me get out and about after being home for 9 months. When you first start using one, it is a little wierd. It's a little harder than it really looks, isn't it?

We are anxious to see your pics.

Good to have and use the cane but insure you have it adjusted to fit your height that is very important. Too high (long) or too short (low) doesn't help you walk correctly pitting pressure in the wrong places in your legs and arms.

Fred is right Diana, be sure the height is right for you. When walking outside of home I use a hemi-walker. I'd like to graduate to a cane at some point.

Diana: Glad you "gave in" to a cane. I couldn't do without mine. I also use a walker in the house, especially at night when I am more tired. I agree with Fred. At first my cane was too short (per the medical store I bought it from) and then my doctor told me that I had it at the wrong height. It does make a difference. I can only walk short distances and outside of the house not unassisted so the cane has been wonderful. We went on vacation last month and I took my cane, walker and transit wheel chair. When I was in the hospital I thought I would walk out...NOT. So I guess I have come farther in acceptance than I think sometimes. Leah from Arizona
