Bruce was post stroke on February 23, 2010. As you all know, he was making incredible improvement. After early am OT on his right arm, still awaiting Botox to kick and swimming for an hour, then 2 hours at home with his CNA; he told me he was all done with everything, ate a candy bar for dinner and asked for help to bed. He was asleep by 7 pm-no medications, no bathroom, no teeth. Thursday morning, no change. He was up at 3-I'd left cereal, which he ate. I made breakfast, but he said all he wanted to do was watch TV. This has been going on for three days. He is so spastic and stiff, I can't explain. He did ask to go swimming today and said he will still swim. I gave both CNA's the weekend off. Weather this week has been horrid here and I know that adds to the pain and stiffness. He refuses to work on any speech homework, so by noon, he can't even finish a sentence. I am trying not to panic. Everyone here advised this may happen and I had to think about tough love, but this is horrible. My response has been no work, no treats. I have to honestly say it was nice to be able to concentrate on myself and my own stuff. I got a ton of paperwork done and housework. I even took a shower for the first time without someone here in the house with him. Of course, shoveled snow alot. Upside: he put on his own sweatshirt with some verbal cueing, took off his shoes and socks and brace, was almost totally continent, stood with cane without any help, and finally was able to get into the kitchen without help in the WC where he proceeded to do the dishes. Today he agreed to take his medications and did his EStim. His PT=OT Insurance benefits run out this week. Pool is paid for until end of March and he has said he will not continue PT=OT when we have to pay. A week is a long time off and 13 hours in front of a TV will get to anyone, even someone as stubborn as Bruce. He has all new reading material which he took to bed with him, but I know he is not reading yet. Any suggestions from you pro's will be appreciated and I will let you know how we progress.

hi Ethyl:

My deficits are different than Bruce so I don't have any great suggestions but have you read our newsletter article by Erin & JJ & their speech therapy at home. I am sure you can get few ideas on how to integrate some of those therapies in your life.
