I fell again

Last night after cleaning up the kitchen, I turned to walk out and at the same time noticed a burner still on so I turned around, too fast, I lost my balance and fell on my back. I was stunned for a few minutes but I didn`t think I had hurt myself. Andre heard me and came to help. I had so many falls the last 27 years but luckily never hurt myself. Lately, my knees hurt with arthritis so getting up from the floor is a lot harder than it used to be. After several tries, I could not get up and losing energy with every try. Andre wanted to help me. I always say no to help because I am afraid people will hurt their backs helping me but I really did need help. Andre went behind me and holding me under my arms, lifted me and wait for it. he lost his footing and we both landed on the floor again with me on top of him. We couldn`t help it we both started to laugh. Ok, so we tried something else. He pushed a dining room chair close to me and held it firmly while I got myself up. Yay!! we did it. I was a little sore but I did it. This morning I am sore all over and I have a very nice bruise to show off. I have to stop falling, it is getting too hard to get back up again.

I am so glad you were not badly hurt, falling is scary, hopefully you will learn to slow down so that future falls can be avoided. I feel falling is invietable in our post stroke journey, hopefully we will learn something from it & avoid future falls.

MC, Ray has had so many falls and some of them I have been able to help him up, some we have called Trev to help with and some the paramedics. It is hard to know when to call the paramedics but I usually do so if I think he is hurt.

I have had two falls so far this year. I now see it as age related, I am 64, and haste related, I am always dashing off to do something and so I trip over. I guess awareness is the key here.

I am very glad you were not hurt. Keep safe and when you have a fall assess the damage and get up with help if you can.

True, both of you have black n' blue marks and

new aches,

but as I read what happened

I couldn't help but smile a little

In a strange way, forgive me I do not intend to offend,

but it was kind of romantic and loving and a bit of silly-fun.

MC,

When I saw that you fell on top of Andre, I've got to admit, I thought "woo hoo"! I am sorry though that you fell. It sounds like something I'd do. Like many of you stroke survivors I have an issue with balance due to medication I take for trigeminal neuralgia. It was really bad though when I became "toxic" from dilantin...I could fall while standing perfectly still!!!

Bill is real careful, but he has fallen more this year than he had in all the years since he started the strokes. I think because the last one was in his brain stem??...

Anyway, I'm glad you are ok...and Andre was there to cushion your second fall.

MarieClaire: I applaud your sense of humor and Andre's. Early on, Bruce would panic, somehow thinking I would leave him. It was obviously stroke-related, because we are both so much better now.

Like Sue, depending on where we are in the house and if I feel he is truly hurt, depends on whether we try to get up together or have to call 911. Up to date it is 50-50.

that aside, I am relieved that you are not seriously injured. Sore yes and that is to be expected. Please take it easy for a few days, go slow. And the same for Andre. Funny, we always look back and see exactly what we did wrong. Patience and NO multi-tasking and that goes for non-stroke survivors over 40 as well. Take care, please. Debbie

mc, you sound like me now, lol. i'm glad you were not hurt. the bruises i could write a book about i think. i usually can't get myself back up either but therapy is trying to help me with that. i bet you both made a pretty picture on the floor, LOL be more careful next time. i have heard that statement so many times its pathetic. the bruising heals but as we age it takes longer and the chance of breaking a hip is what really scares me. be safe
