Longest Birthday celebration known to man!-LOL

Sitting here right now, enjoying my quiet. Glass of wine. Kira has gone off with Bruce, way too much activity around here past couple of days for her - lol. Mary Beth has gone up to bed.

Bruce started with a cold last week. I am sure it was from Leo who insisted his was just allergies. But yesterday at work he was sneezing, coughing, just miserable. But he refuses to give up his time and by that time it is too late for Bruce and I. When Bruce starting coughing on Tuesday, I mega-dosed the Vitamin C for both of us. Many years back I contracted Legionnaire's on an airplane to New Mexico. I was assigned to a team in Albuquerque that included a holistic APRN-amazing how they view health issues so differently in the Southwest than here in the Northeast. Mega-dosing C was one of her prescriptions for me and I have never forgotten it. Made quite a difference.

Jen is back in town for two weeks and had called to say whatever I needed to get me through my latest round of difficulties with my back and the seemingly endless round of doctors, tests and specialists to what are we going to do to remedy this. In the meantime, Mary Beth is here for celebration with family of Bruce's birthday. Boy, I am tired already.

Jen and Bruce go off to pool Friday morning. I worked so I could take off Friday night when Mary arrived and gave Leo the night off. Pool is closed until April 30th. Figures! So Jen and I work out a schedule next week to allow me a bit of extra time off. But I am just so disappointmented in that Bruce can not go to the pool. He was so looking forward to it and I have not been allowed to take him until this back issue is solved. Funny how as long as he gets what I feel he needs and is willing to work for, it is easier for me to consider what is best then for me. Just really bummed.

Mary Beth came in Friday night and pizza. She does not have real pizza in NH-just the Greek kind and that is always our treat on her first night here.

Today was luncheon for family for Bruce's birthday celebration. Brother John suggested a restaurant that he assured us was handicap accessible-and not really. But our Brittany was with us and was able to get Bruce taken care of. Gotta have those 20 year olds.

Mary and I had a discussion about isolation and stroke, even with family. I will blog that at a later time as I consider it.

Perfect day-70 degrees and we were to go back to John's, but at that point Bruce needed rest and down time. Tonight he still continues to cough and can't really clear from his back. I have spent the last few nights helping him to get up onto his side and then resettled. Plus we are a very "busy" group. He loves this about us, but I was also fearing overload-mental stimulation and chose coming home to some quiet time before the nightly activities!

Next week is crazy. Bruce's lady friends coming Tuesday night to do their monthly dinner and celebrate his birthday and then dinner Thursday night with his best friends to celebrate the wife and Bruce's birthdays! Friday am going to have Jen come in am to cover my doctor appointment and I hope to be able to get my hair cut. Mary and I looked at my calendar for next week and Mary says I am over-doing. Instead of using Jen's time as a break, I have only added more to my list! Will have to think about that.

Lots of new issues about Bruce's diet and weight loss. And again I will talk about that later. Mary always hits the road early on Sunday. Wants to get through the traffic and get home. Has her own week to deal with. I am thinking now that we only have one errand-pharmacy and then down day for Bruce and I. We will review the havoc I have created for next week-lol and just rest. One wonderful piece of news worth sharing is that other than just out of bed, awaiting for the rest of the house to rise: 5:30am-7am, Bruce has NOT turned on a TV! Amazing. Debbie

Debbie, so happy you had a fun filled weekend without stress. You both deserved this. Sorry about the pool, but maybe Jen can think of something good to replace this.

The weather here has been rainy with rain delay of our Cardinals home day opening. Sadly, we lost to our rivals, the Cubs! We won yesterday and hopefully will today. Rain only came in yesterday a.m. while I was out naturally. Hopefully, rain will stay away today so we can meet with Larry's son and family.

Bruce is so lucky to have the friends continue to stop by. Larry is now talking on phone to a close friend. He is not able to come as much as he moved to the Lake of the Ozarks, plus travels with his job, has family issues with his daughter and mother, etc.

As you stated in one post, family or friends do not offer to come pick us up or help with Larry. A couple of friends came last year, had gotten tickets to a concert, and drove us there and back. Those things are few and far between here, even with family.

I'm glad you will have some relief from all you do this week. Take care.

Julie

Debbie, I am glad that you are recognizing some of the extra demands you are placing on yourself. You are right in that it often takes someone else to help us see that. Do enjoy all your activities and friends but remember those breaks.
